  • Patent number: 5157191
Abstract: The catalytic activity of a crystalline aluminosilicate zeolite having a Constraint Index of from about 1 to about 12 for a variety of hydrocarbon conversions including the oligomerization of olefins to provide high viscosity index lubes is significantly enhanced by modifying the catalyst to reduce surface acid sites. This is accomplished by contacting the zeolite with a fluorosilicate salt to extract surface zeolitic aluminum which is replaced by silicon.

  • Patent number: 5085762
Abstract: Emission of noxious nitrogen oxides with the flue gas from the regenerator of a fluid catalytic cracking plant are reduced by incorporating into the circulating inventory of cracking catalyst separate additive particles that contain a copper-loaded zeolite material having a characteristic structure with a defined X-ray diffraction pattern. The preferred material of this type is zeolite MCM-22. The copper may be exchanged onto the zeolite or impregnated into the catalyst. In addition, the catalyst may include titanium or zirconium to provide stability and further improvements in stability may be obtained with the addition of rareearth metal cations, especially cerium or yttrium. NOX and CO emissions from the regenerator are reduced, and the gasoline produced in the unit may have an improved octane number.

  • Patent number: 4908120
Abstract: A lubricant dewaxing process which is useful with difficult feeds, especially highly waxy feeds having paraffin contents in excess of 25 weight percent or feeds with high nitrogen levels, employs two-step dewaxing in which the first stage is carried out under relatively mild conditions using a binder-free zeolite dewaxing catalyst to obtain extended catalyst cycle life between successive reactivations with a constant temperature for the duration of each dewaxing cycle. The second stage dewaxing is also carried out with a binder-free catalyst under conditions which maintain the target pour point for the product with a progressively increasing temperature during each dewaxing cycle. More than one preliminary dewaxing stage may be provided in order to reduce severity in each stage with mild conditions and constant temperature being maintained in the preliminary steps. Using this process, extended catalyst cycle lives may be obtained with difficult feeds.

  • Patent number: 4872968
Abstract: A catalytic dewaxing process in which a waxy hydrocarbon feed is dewaxed over binder-free zeolite dewaxing catalyst. The absence of binder reduces catalyst aging especially when operating at controlled space velocities in the range of 0.25 to 1.5 LHSV. The process is especially useful with lube oil stocks where aging problems are particularly severe, typically highly waxy stocks or stocks containing high levels of nitrogen. Preferred catalysts are the intermediate pore size zeolites such as ZSM-5, ZSM-11 and ZSM-23.

  • Patent number: 4582815
Abstract: The present invention is directed to a method for extruding silica-rich solids. The method comprises mixing silica-rich solids with water in an alkali metal base or basic salt followed by mulling and extruding and subsequently drying the extrudate whereby the dried extrudate has a crush strength superior to that of the prior art. The silica-rich solids can be silica alone, zeolite alone or a mixture thereof. The alkali metal can be sodium hydroxide. The invention is also directed to a product which has a special attribute in that they have sufficient integrity to withstand treatments with acids so that it is now possible to steam, acid extract, or calcine such extrudates. The catalyst can be used in hydrocarbon conversions such as hydrocracking, isomerization, hydrogenation, dehydrogenation, polymerization, reforming, catalytic cracking, or catalytic hydrocracking.
