    Abstract: The invention includes novel strains of E. coli and methods for treating livestock with strains of the invention to inhibit growth of S. typhimurium as well as other pathogenic enterobacteria, such as E. coli 0157:H7, in the intestinal tract of treated animals. By inhibiting growth of such contaminant pathogenic organisms in the intestinal tract of treated animals, the number of such organisms living in the animals, or excreted into the environment, is reduced or eliminated. The potential for re-introduction and for contamination of meat and other products is concomitantly reduced or eliminated.
