Patent number: 10404645Abstract: In a computer-implemented method to facilitate administration of a virtualization infrastructure, operational conditions of members of the virtualization infrastructure are monitored by a social network monitoring agent, wherein the members of the virtualization infrastructure are mapped to a social network such that at least a portion of the members of the virtualization infrastructure are also members of the social network. A group of members of the virtualization infrastructure is automatically created within the social network based at least in part on the operational conditions.Type: GrantFiled: February 6, 2018Date of Patent: September 3, 2019Assignee: VMware, Inc.Inventors: Vijayaraghavan Soundararajan, Lawrence Spracklen, Emre Celebi

Patent number: 9736254Abstract: In a computer-implemented method to facilitate administration of a member of a network, performance of a member of a network is monitored by an agent, wherein members of the network are provided with access to a shared message stream such that the members of the network are able to monitor messages generated by other members of the network posted to the shared message stream. Responsive to the agent identifying a specific operational condition of the member, the shared message stream is monitored for a message related to the specific operational condition. Provided the shared message stream comprises a message related to the specific operational condition identified by the agent, an association of the message with an indication that the member identifies with the specific operational condition is established, wherein the agent is configured to establish the association.Type: GrantFiled: June 25, 2013Date of Patent: August 15, 2017Assignee: VMware, Inc.Inventors: Vijayaraghavan Soundararajan, Lawrence Spracklen, Emre Celebi

Patent number: 9189758Abstract: A computer-implemented method to facilitate administration of a network of members. Members of a network are provided with access to a shared message stream such that the members of the network are able to monitor messages generated by other members of the network posted to the shared message stream, wherein at least some of the messages are indicative of operational conditions of particular other members which generated the messages. Responsive to a first member of the network identifying a specific operational condition of the first member, the shared message stream is monitored for a message related to the specific operational condition. Provided the shared message stream includes a message related to the specific operational condition identified by the first member, an association of the message with an indication that the first member identifies with the specific operational condition is established, wherein the first member is configured to establish the association.Type: GrantFiled: August 24, 2012Date of Patent: November 17, 2015Assignee: VMware, Inc.Inventors: Vijayaraghavan Soundararajan, Emre Celebi, Harish Muppalla, Lawrence Spracklen

Patent number: 9111241Abstract: A computer-implemented method for creating a social network of members of a virtualization infrastructure. At a virtualization infrastructure manager, at least a portion of the members of the virtualization infrastructure are identified. Parent/child relationships of identified members of the virtualization infrastructure are identified. A social network of the identified members of the virtualization infrastructure is generated based on the identified parent/child relationships. Affiliation relationships between parent members and child members of the virtualization infrastructure are established, wherein the child members can access shared message streams corresponding to the parent members, such that a child member can establish an association of a message from a shared message stream with an indication that the child member identifies with content of the message.Type: GrantFiled: August 24, 2012Date of Patent: August 18, 2015Assignee: VMware, Inc.Inventors: Vijayaraghavan Soundararajan, Emre Celebi, Harish Muppalla, Lawrence Spracklen

Patent number: 8560791Abstract: Techniques for migrating persistent data between and across data stores are implemented using monitoring methods. The method includes classifying frequently updated blocks of persistent data to distinguish those blocks from less frequently updated blocks of persistent data. The less frequently updated blocks are copied from the source data store to the destination data store, such that persistent data is copied to the destination data store in the absence of the persistent data of the frequently updated blocks. The method further includes identifying a modified set of the less frequently updated blocks that are modified during the copying. The modified set of less frequently updated blocks is copied from the source data store to the destination data store, without copying the frequently updated blocks. It is then determined whether to copy the frequently updated blocks of persistent data from the source data store to the destination data store.Type: GrantFiled: February 26, 2013Date of Patent: October 15, 2013Assignee: VMware, Inc.Inventors: Ali Mashitizadeh, Min Cai, Emre Celebi

Patent number: 8386731Abstract: Techniques for migrating persistent data of virtual machines between and across data stores are optimized using special tracking data structures and monitoring methods. Special tracking data structures include an incremental change block tracking bitmap that indicate what blocks have been modified during a copy operation. The determination of whether any one block has been modified during the copy operation is based on whether or not the copy operation has progressed past that block. Another special tracking data structure is a Bloom filter, which provides a space-efficient data structure for keeping track of dirtied blocks. In addition, heat-based optimization techniques are applied so that blocks that are frequently updated are filtered and not transferred to the destination data store until the last iteration of the migration process.Type: GrantFiled: September 14, 2010Date of Patent: February 26, 2013Assignee: VMware, Inc.Inventors: Ali Mashtizadeh, Min Cai, Emre Celebi

Publication number: 20090222530Abstract: A service advertisement delivery system and method is useful in a data processing network. A broadcasting node receives service advertisements describing services offered by service providing network nodes. A datastore in communication with the broadcasting node stores a set of the service advertisements of the service providing network nodes. The broadcasting node broadcasts the set of service advertisements over a broadcast channel to service seeking network nodes receiving the advertisements over the broadcast channel.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 23, 2006Publication date: September 3, 2009Applicant: MATSUSHITA ELECTRIC INDUSTRIAL CO., LTD.Inventors: John Buford, Emre Celebi, Phyllis Frankl, Keith Ross, Gregory Perkins
