  • Publication number: 20100310875
Abstract: Presently described are articles, such as optical displays and protective films, comprising a (e.g. light transmissive) substrate having a surface layer comprising the reaction product of a mixture comprising a non-fluorinated binder precursor (e.g. of a hardcoat composition) and at least one polymerizable perfluoropolyether polymer. The resulting cured surface layer can advantageously exhibit low lint attraction in combination with low surface energy. Also described are one-step and two-step methods of synthesizing perfluoropolyether polymers having polymerizable ethylenically unsaturated groups.

  • Publication number: 20100265584
Abstract: Retroreflecting optical constructions are disclosed. A disclosed retroreflecting optical construction includes a retroreflecting layer that has a retroreflecting structured major surface, and an optical film that is disposed on the retroreflecting structured major surface of the retroreflecting layer. The optical film has an optical haze that is not less than about 30%. Substantial portions of each two neighboring major surfaces in the retroreflecting optical construction are in physical contact with each other.

  • Publication number: 20100171929
Abstract: A communication article and system comprising a writing member having a dry erasable front surface and a projection member is disclosed. The projection member includes an asymmetric optical diffuser that scatters light in a first direction with a first viewing angle AH, and in a second direction orthogonal to the first direction with a second viewing angle AV. The ratio AH/AV is at least about 2.

  • Publication number: 20100110551
Abstract: A multifunctional optical film for enhancing light extraction includes a flexible substrate, a structured layer, a high index backfill layer, and an optional passivation layer. The structured layer effectively uses microreplicated diffractive or scattering nanostructures located near enough to the light generation region to enable extraction of an evanescent wave from an organic light emitting diode (OLED) device. The backfill layer has a material having an index of refraction different from the index of refraction of the structured layer. The backfill layer also provides a planarizing layer over the structured layer in order to conform the light extraction film to a layer of an OLED display device. The film may have additional layers added to or incorporated within it to an emissive surface in order to effect additional functionalities beyond improvement of light extraction efficiency.

  • Publication number: 20080274352
Abstract: Optical films are described that comprise an antistatic primer disposed on the substrate and a high refractive index layer disposed on the primer. The primer comprises a sulfopolymer and at least one antistatic agent. The high refractive index layer comprises surface modified inorganic nanoparticles dispersed in a crosslinked organic material. The antistatic agent is preferably selected from conductive inorganic particles, conductive polymer, and mixtures thereof. Also describes are antistatic compositions and surface treated conductive inorganic oxide particles.
