  • Patent number: 5133380
Abstract: A pneumatic control valve (10) including a valve body (12) with fixed aperture plate (14), a movable redirector (18) and a force motor (26). The force motor (26) supports the redirector (18) adjacent to the aperture surface (16) of the fixed aperture plate (14) and is operable to move the redirector (18) back and forth along a line (28) without contacting the aperture surface. The aperture surface (16) has a plurality of apertures (70,72,74,76,78) with metering edges (124,126,128,130,132,134,136,138). The redirector (18) has redirector cavities (102,104,106,108) with metering edges (140,142,144,146). The force motor (26) deflects the redirector (18) to positions in which one or more of the cavities in the redirector connect two or more of the apertures (70,72,74,76,78) and direct fluid from some apertures and into other apertures. The location, length and shape of the metering edges can be varied as required to obtain desired fluid flow characteristics.

  • Patent number: 4327345
Abstract: An electromagnetic solenoid is adapted to open and close an associated valve or to reciprocally engage a slideable member. The solenoid includes an electromagnetic and multi-piece armature enclosed within a protective housing. The armature comprises an inner pole piece operatively connected to an outer pole piece to initially provide a multi-level air gap with respect to the electromagnet. The inner pole piece is telescopically received within the outer pole piece and may over-travel the outer pole piece once the motion of the outer pole piece has ceased.

  • Patent number: 4300595
Abstract: An electromagnetic control valve (20) having a protective ported housing (22, 24, 32) and an electromagnet (70) and a reciprocatively situated armature (90) located therein. The control valve (20) further has a movable valve plate (160) and stationary valve seat (110) operatively connected to the armature (90) and situated within a passage (40) to control the flow of fluid therethrough. The valve seat (110) includes a plurality of circularly spaced fluid receiving passages (146) and a single annular fluid exit passage (148). The valve plate (160) has a like plurality of circularly spaced passages (170) located in a mating surface (162) adapted to mate with a corresponding surface (142) of the valve seat (110) and to seal off the flow of fluid through the valve seat.

  • Patent number: 4159703
Abstract: An improved air assisted fuel atomizer is disclosed herein. The atomizer receives air from a source having a higher pressure than the output environment of the atomizer and fuel under pressure from a pulsed source. Each fuel pulse is injected tangentially into a circular fuel swirl chamber to form a rotating fuel ring concentric with air path through the atomizer. Fuel from the rotating fuel ring is gradually carried off by the air flow to produce uniformly distributed effectively continuous air/fuel mixture. In the preferred embodiment the air assisted fuel atomizer is embodied in an internal combustion engine, single point fuel injection system.

  • Patent number: 4116185
Abstract: Disclosed herein is a carburetor for an internal combustion engine embodying a novel air control valve in which the air is admitted from a plurality of radially disposed apertures. Air flow is controlled by a like plurality of movable shutters attached to a movable cage assembly circumscribing the carburetor housing. The carburetor also embodies vacuum valves which generate vacuum signals for the engine's spark advance and exhaust gas recirculating mechanisms as a function of the engine's manifold vacuum and the position of the cage assembly. In the preferred embodiment, the cage assembly is a rotary cage.
