  • Patent number: 8988809
Abstract: A disk recording device is disclosed comprising a disk and a head. A first plurality of reference bursts are written along a first radius of the disk, the first plurality of reference bursts comprising a first reference burst. A second plurality of reference bursts are written along a second radius of the disk circumferentially offset from the first radius, the second plurality of reference bursts comprising a second reference burst. A first segment of a reference band is written along a third radius of the disk circumferentially offset from the second radius, and at a first timing offset from the first reference burst. A second timing offset between the first reference burst and the second reference burst is measured, and a second segment of the reference band is written radially coherent with the first segment based on the first timing offset and the second timing offset.

  • Patent number: 8717695
Abstract: A disk drive is disclosed comprising a disk comprising a plurality of tracks, and a head actuated over the disk. The head is positioned over a track while writing a first frequency pattern substantially centered on the track at a first frequency. After writing the first frequency pattern, a second frequency pattern is written substantially centered on the track at a second frequency, wherein the second frequency pattern is written over the first frequency pattern. After writing the second frequency pattern over the first frequency pattern, the head is scanned across the track while reading the disk to generate a read signal. A first frequency component is extracted from the read signal representing the first frequency.

  • Patent number: 8625224
Abstract: A disk drive is disclosed comprising a head actuated over a disk comprising a plurality of tracks. The head is positioned over a track minus a first delta and a first frequency pattern is written at a first frequency. The head is positioned over the track plus a second delta and a second frequency pattern is written at a second frequency different from the first frequency. After writing the first frequency pattern and second frequency pattern, a third frequency pattern is written substantially centered on the track at a third frequency. After writing the third frequency pattern, the head is scanned across the track while reading the disk to generate a read signal. A first frequency component is extracted from the read signal representing the first frequency, and a second frequency component is extracted from the read signal representing the second frequency.

  • Publication number: 20130302520
Abstract: A processing system for depositing a plurality of source materials on a substrate, includes a first thermal evaporation source that can evaporate a first source material to produce a first vapor, a second thermal evaporation source that can evaporate a second source material to produce a second vapor, a vapor mixing chamber that allows the first vapor and the second vapor to be mixed to produce a mixed vapor, and conduits that can separately transport the first vapor and the second vapor to the vapor mixing chamber. The mixed vapor can be directed toward a substrate to deposit a mixture of the first source material and the second source material on the substrate. The processing system can also include vapor filters configured to regulate flows of the first vapor and the second vapor, and a mixed vapor filter to regulate flow of the mixed vapor.

  • Publication number: 20130287947
Abstract: A deposition apparatus includes one or more evaporation sources each of which includes a container comprising an opening and configured to hold a source material, a source heater adjacent to and in thermal communication with the container, wherein the source heater is configured to elevate temperature of the source material to produce a vapor of the source material, and a source enclosure that encloses the container and the source heater. The source enclosure includes a vent configured to direct the vapor of the source material towards a substrate. The deposition apparatus includes also a plurality of substrate heaters in thermal communication with the substrate. The substrate includes a deposition surface configured to receive deposition of the source material by condensing the vapor. The plurality of substrate heaters can heat different portions of the substrate to different temperatures.
