  • Publication number: 20070059630
Abstract: An emulsion polymerization process comprising polymerizing monomer in an emulsion in a reaction vessel at a first temperature to form a resin; cooling the reaction vessel to a second temperature that is above the softening point of the resin yet below the temperature required for significant depolymerization reaction to occur; and adding water to the cooled reaction vessel in an amount sufficient to effect phase inversion with mixing for a sufficient time to form an aqueous latex emulsion in the absence of a surfactant.

  • Publication number: 20060166121
Abstract: A toner process that includes a first heating of a colorant dispersion, a first polyester resin free latex emulsion, a second polyester latex emulsion, and a wax dispersion in the presence of a coagulant containing a metal ion; adding a third polyester free latex; adding an organic sequestering compound or a silicate salt sequestering compound, followed by a second heating.

  • Publication number: 20060154162
Abstract: Toner particles comprise resin, wax and optionally colorants, and the wax is substantially excluded from the interior core of the toner particles. Processes for preparing such toner particles comprise providing an aqueous dispersion of resin particles and optionally colorants, mixing the aqueous dispersion in presence of a coagulant, aggregating to form particles, coalescing to form fused particles, and removing the fused particles from the aqueous dispersion. Wax dispersions can be added either after mixing or during aggregation, so that wax is excluded from the core of the toner particles.

  • Publication number: 20060121384
Abstract: Toner compositions include a non cross linked resin; a cross linked resin or gel; a wax; and a colorant. Processes for preparing a toner include mixing a non-cross linked resin and a cross-linked resin or gel in the presence of a wax, a colorant, and a coagulant to provide toner size aggregates; adding additional non-cross linked latex to the formed aggregates thereby providing a shell over the formed aggregates; heating the shell covered aggregates to form toner; and, optionally, isolating the toner.

  • Publication number: 20050272851
Abstract: A wax emulsion comprised of polyethylene wax and one or more surfactants in an aqueous medium, wherein the polyethylene wax has a degree of crystallinity of from about 50% to about 80% by weight of the polyethylene wax, is provided. The wax emulsion is made by emulsifying the polyethylene wax, one or more surfactants and an aqueous medium in a vessel at a temperature at or above the melting point of the polyethylene wax to form an emulsified product, and subsequently cooling the emulsified product to ambient temperature at a cooling rate of at least 10° C. per minute. The wax emulsion is preferably incorporated into toner particles prepared by emulsion/aggregation/coalescing.
