  • Patent number: 10255086
Abstract: A computer receives at least one requirement for a new VM. The computer identifies an existing VM to be modified during the generation of the new VM. The computer determines at least one step necessary to create the new VM configuration from the existing VM. The computer presents at least one pathway to the new VM from the existing VM. The computer receives a selection of a presented pathway to create the new VM.

  • Patent number: 9626266
Abstract: Embodiments of the present invention relate to an error simulator for a test platform. The test platform includes a test process, a system under test (SUT), the error simulator and at least one downstream system. The error simulator is a transparent proxy that intercepts traffic from/to the SUT. The error simulator forwards only “success” commands from the SUT to the downstream system(s) and forwards actual responses from the downstream system(s) to the SUT. However, when the error simulator receives a “failure” command from the SUT, the error simulator automatically returns a corresponding error message that is obtained from preprogrammed failure information to the SUT. The preprogrammed failure information details one or more “failure” commands and corresponding error messages, and is received from the test process by the error simulator either prior to the start of testing or immediately preceding a failure during a test.

  • Publication number: 20150372881
Abstract: Embodiments of the present invention are directed to dynamically allocating shared cloud-based resources among multiple parties. A cloud provider provides a quota service that implements two quota allocation models: a reserved model and a hybrid model. The reserved model allows for reserved quota allocations, and the hybrid model allows for both reserved and fair use quota allocations. Quota trees are used to track resource usage and to ensure usage remains within specified quota limits. While the cloud provider is able to efficiently manage its resources, an organization that uses the cloud provider's resources does not need to purchase as many resources, such as space, bandwidth, memory usage, processing power, or other unit of work.

  • Publication number: 20150026525
Abstract: Embodiments of the present invention relate to server controlled adaptive back off for overload protection. The server controls a back off period for each request, which indicates a retry time of when a request should be resent to the server. This back off approach relies on the server since the server has much more accurate information available on which to make back off decisions. The server changes the retry time based on how busy it is and its ability to handle the current load and/or its downstream dependent systems. This back off approach increases server stability during a very high load by spreading the load out over a longer time period. The server is able to turn a traffic spike into a constant load, which is easier and more efficient for the server to handle.
