Abstract: A pharmaceutical composition including a physiologically effective amount of a mixture of conjugated fatty acid(s) and polyphenol(s) is disclosed. Methods of formulation are further disclosed. Trienoic acids such as punicic acid are employed in exceptionally preferred embodiments of the invention. The invention has utility in management/treatment of a wide range of clinical conditions including, but not limited to, obesity, diabetes, cancer and heart disease.

Abstract: Dietary supplements useful for treating or preventing cardiac disease are disclosed According to some embodiments, the presently disclosed supplement includes a pomegranate product fermented with a statin-producing fungus such one or more of Monascus, Aspergillus, Penicillium, Pleurotus, Pythium, Hypomyces, Paelicilomyces, Eupenicillium, and Doratomyces. Alternatively or additionally, the presently disclosed supplement includes a pomegranate product in combination with a plant product, such as a grain product and a legume, fermented with the statin-producing fungus. Optionally, the supplement includes at least one of coenzymeQ10 and a tocopherol. The presently disclosed dietary supplements include both a COX-2 inhibitor and a HMG-CoA reductase inhibitor, and in some embodiments, the supplement is useful for reducing or controlling blood cholesterol for managing atherosclerotic disease, and/or for managing blood pressure. Methods of preparing the presently disclosed dietary supplement are also provided.

Abstract: Edible products useful in improving health and preparation of same are disclosed. The products include a fruit seed component impregnated with at least one dried fruit component, preferably a fermented fruit component. Preparation is by combining a fruit seed component with a liquid fruit fermentation component to produce a slurry which is dried to produce the edible product which is the fruit seed component impregnated with a dried fruit component, preferably a fermented fruit component. Administering a physiologically effective amount of the edible product to a subject constitutes a method of improving health of the subject.
