Abstract: Provided herein are control and monitoring protocols for a virtual or augmented reality environment provided to patients, and which enable a trainer to have real-time monitoring and control of the virtual reality environment. In various embodiments, a virtual environment is provided to a first user at a first location. Data (e.g., biometric data) is collected based on the first user's interaction with the virtual environment while engaging in a training protocol. A real-time mirrored view of the virtual environment is provided to a second user via a network. The data and one or more control tools are provided to the second user. The control tools are configured to adjust one or more parameters of the virtual environment. A selection of at least one of the control tools is received form the second user and the virtual environment is adjusted based on the selection.

  • Patent number: 11523773
Abstract: Adjustment of training protocols in virtual reality (VR) or augmented reality (AR) environments based on biofeedback are provided. In various embodiments, motion data is collected for a user while the user performs a training protocol in a virtual environment. A biometric measurement is collected for the user while the user performs the training protocol. The motion data and the biometric measurement are provided to a learning system at a remote server. The learning system determines an adjustment to the training protocol based on the motion data and the biometric measurement. The adjustment is provided by the learning system and is applied to the training protocol. In various embodiments, the adjustment, the motion data, and/or the biometric measurement may be logged in an electronic health record.

  • Publication number: 20220221929
Abstract: A virtual/augmented reality-based system for guiding patients through rehabilitation exercises and providing real time feedback is disclosed. In various embodiments the system, methods, and computer program products relate to guiding and measuring neck and shoulder motion, specifically protraction and retraction motions. A virtual reality environment includes a fixed object having a guidance feature and a moveable object having a complementary shape to the guidance features. Whether the fixed object is in a complimentary orientation to the movable object is determined. When the fixed object is in a complimentary orientation with the movable shape, an indication is presented to the user to perform a motion. A plurality of sensors determines a plurality of measurements relating to the motion of the user. Whether the fixed object is in a complementary orientation with the movable object is determined based on the plurality of measurements.

  • Patent number: 11169621
Abstract: A virtual or augmented reality based tracking system for assessment of postural sway is provided. In various embodiments, positional data are collected from a user from a headset and/or one or more hand sensors. The positional data is processed to determine the center of mass of the user. In determining of the center of mass, positional data may be given a higher or lower weight compared to other positional data. A virtual reality environment is presented to the user through the headset and may be altered to simulate unbalancing of the user. The raw position data and center of mass are sent to a remote server. A report of user sway is generated from the center of mass. Nausea reduction may be implemented by narrowing a field of vision of the user.

  • Publication number: 20200401214
Abstract: Provided herein are methods of and computer program products for physical therapy using VR/AR, specifically, for guiding user motion for physiotherapy in VR/AR environments. In various embodiments, a virtual environment is provided to a user via a VR/AR system. An event marker is provided at a first location within the virtual environment. A position of the event marker is adjusted to a second location. Positional data is collected based on the user's interaction with the one or more event markers. The positional data is provided to a remote server via a network and a compliance metric is determined based on the positional data. When the compliance metric differs from a predetermined range, an adjustment is applied to the event marker. In various embodiments, a visual field of a user may be altered and the user guided to repeat a task to assess and/or monitor proprioception.

  • Publication number: 20200371738
Abstract: Provided herein are clinical evaluation and treatment as well as training protocols in virtual or augmented reality that create fully immersive environments, which enable real-time rendering for communication, specifically telecommunication, between two or more parties. In various embodiments, a virtual environment is provided to a first user at a first location. A first set of data comprising positional data of the first user is provided to a second user (e.g., an instructor) at a second location. An activity (e.g., a treatment or assessment protocol) may be received from the second user (e.g., an instructor) and the activity may be displayed to the first user via layering the activity over the virtual environment. An adjustment may be applied to the activity by the second user based on compliance of the first user with the activity protocols. Additional users at other locations may also receive the first activity from the second user.

  • Publication number: 20200234813
Abstract: Continuous clinical evaluation and care adjustment in virtual reality (VR) or augmented reality (AR) environments is provided. In various embodiments, an evaluation protocol is read from a datastore. The evaluation protocol comprises a plurality of tasks. Each of the plurality of tasks are presented to a user via a virtual or augmented reality display. Positional data are collected from a plurality of sensors. The positional data is received at a remote server and compared to the evaluation protocol to determine a score reflecting the clinical evaluation of the user based on the performance of the plurality of tasks. Whether the score differs from a predetermined threshold is determined at the remote server. A healthcare regimen is adjusted when the score differs from the threshold.

  • Publication number: 20200185097
Abstract: Guidance of user motion for physiotherapy in a virtual reality or augmented reality environment is provided. In various embodiments, an object is displayed to a user within a virtual environment. The user is directed to track the object within the virtual environment with a body part. The object is moved within the virtual environment to induce motion of the body part in compliance with a predetermined rehabilitation protocol. The position of the body part is determined and the position is sent over a network to a remote server. Compliance with the predetermined rehabilitation protocol is determined at the remote server. An electronic health record includes the predetermined rehabilitation protocol and may be stored in a remote database.
