Abstract: An elevator system includes an elevator car, an elongate tension member operably connected to the elevator car and configured to move the elevator car, and an elevator car position measurement system. The elevator car position measurement system includes a pulse generator configured to transmit a pulse along the elongate tension member; and a detector unit configured to receive the pulse from the pulse generator after the pulse has been transmitted along a length of the elongate tension member and to record a time at which the pulse is received. One of the pulse generator and the detector unit is arranged to move within the hoistway dependent on a position of the elevator car within the hoistway, such that a length of the elongate tension member along which the pulse is transmitted changes dependent on a position of the elevator car within the hoistway.

Abstract: An elevator system (1) includes a load sensor (4, 24, 34, 44), a flexible member (2, 18, 22) and an elevator unit (10, 20, 28) arranged to move vertically in a hoistway. The system is arranged such that the load sensor (4, 24, 34, 44) detects a load from at least a fraction of the flexible member (2, 18, 22) and the fraction of the flexible member (2, 18, 22) that applies load to the load sensor (4, 24, 34, 44) changes as the elevator unit (10, 20, 28) moves vertically in the hoistway. The system further includes a non-volatile memory, arranged to store load conversion information for converting the detected load into an elevator unit position.

Abstract: An elevator system (2) comprises at least one elevator car (6) configured for traveling along a hoistway (4) between a plurality of landings (8); a plurality of landing doors (11) with one or more landing door panels (22) located at the landings (8) and providing access to the hoistway (4) from the landings (8); a plurality of landing door switches (10) and at least one landing door sensor (20). Each landing door switch (10) is configured for monitoring the closed/open state of at least one associated landing door panel (22), respectively. Each landing door sensor (20) is attached to the at least one elevator car (6) and configured for monitoring a closed/open state of a landing door panel (22) located opposite to the landing door sensor (20).
