The stand mixer is configured to receive a mixing bowl with an open top, and the pouring shield is configured to cover the open top of the mixing bowl at an upper rim of the mixing bowl using a seal member which is disposed around an outer perimeter of the pouring shield. The seal member is a flexibly resilient member configured to close the open top of the mixing bowl when the stand mixer is in a closed position, and includes a wide surface for accommodating mixing bowls of various sizes.
