Abstract: Orally and parenterally administrable compositions for the treatment of hypertension, the active hypotensive agent of which is an aminochromanol or pharmaceutically acceptable acid addition salt thereof. The preparation of the active agent is described.

Abstract: Antihypertensive pharmaceutical compositions comprising a compound of the formula (II) ##SPC1##or pharmaceutically acceptable salts or solvates thereof wherein R.sub.1 is nitrile or amidino; R.sub.2 is hydrogen or lower hydrocarbon; R.sub.3, R.sub.4, R.sub.5 and R.sub.6 which may be the same or different, are each selected from hydrogen, halogen, nitro, trifluoromethyl, lower alkyl, lower acyl, hydroxyl, lower etherified hydroxyl or lower acylated hydroxyl; together with a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier. The compounds of formula (II) are also useful as intermediates in the synthesis of the corresponding 2-aminoimidazoline compounds.
