  • Patent number: 10890941
Abstract: A headset for experiencing an augmented and/or a virtual reality environment may include a housing defining an interior cavity, with optical components received in the interior cavity of the housing. A front face may be rotatably coupled to a front portion of the housing to selectively enclose the interior of the housing. A computing device including a display may be received in a slot defined between the front portion of the housing and the front face. A face pad may be removably coupled to the housing, opposite the front face, so as to enclose the optical components in the housing. A user may view an augmented/virtual reality environment displayed on the display through the optical components received in the housing. An adjustable head strap assembly may adjustably position the headset on the head of the user.

  • Patent number: 10592048
Abstract: A method for aligning an image on a mobile device disposed within a head-mounted display (HMD) housing includes: detecting a request to align an image on a touchscreen of a mobile device; detecting, on the touchscreen, a first detected location corresponding to a first touchscreen input event; determining a first displacement of the first detected location with respect to a first target location of the first touchscreen input event; and transposing the image on the touchscreen based on the first displacement. A virtual reality system includes: a mobile device having a touchscreen configured to display an image; and a HMD housing having a first contact configured to generate a first input event at a first location on the touchscreen when the mobile device is disposed within the HMD housing.

  • Patent number: 10521984
Abstract: Techniques described and suggested in the present document include access-card systems and methods that are resistant to attack. In certain implementations, a card reader transmits a challenge message to an access card. When the access card receives the challenge message, the access card validates the challenge message, and then generates a response message based at least in part on the information contained in the challenge message. A security server validates the response message, and when the security server determines that the response is secure, valid, and from an authorized access card, the security server grants access to a physical space. In some implementations, the challenge and response messages are digitally signed using a cryptographic key. Additional implementations include various tests that, when performed on the challenge and/or response messages detect and defeat many attempts to compromise the access-card system.

  • Publication number: 20170285863
Abstract: A head-mounted virtual reality (VR) viewer includes a housing to removably incorporate a portable user device having a touchscreen associated with a display panel, and includes a set of conductive contacts positioned in the housing so as to trigger corresponding touch events at the touchscreen of the portable user device when incorporated at the housing. The portable user device is to detect a location on the touchscreen for each touch event triggered by a conductive contact, determine an orientation of the display panel relative to the housing based on the one or more detected locations of touch events, and configure at least one display operation of the portable user device based on the determined orientation.

  • Patent number: 9244604
Abstract: A touch sensor on a device is configured to accept user input in the form of touches. Control areas on the touch sensor may be designated to correspond to keys on a keyboard or other commands. These control areas may be arranged on either side of the touch sensor to allow the user to activate control areas with their thumbs while holding the device. Size and spacing of the keys may vary dynamically in response to environmental conditions, user interactions, and so forth. Thus, the area of a control on the touch sensor may be larger when operated in a high vibration or motion environment, such as on a train, walking, and so forth. Additionally or alternatively, the position of control areas may dynamically change to adjust to the user.

  • Patent number: 8223262
Abstract: One embodiment sets forth a method for modifying video content stored on a hand-held digital video camera (DVC). The method includes transmitting video data to a computer system to which the hand-held DVC is coupled via a data connector, receiving a request for a set of instructions related to a processing operation being performed on the computer system and involving the video data, transmitting the set of instructions to the computer system via the data connector. The method also includes drawing power from the computer system via the data connector and charging at least in part a battery associated with the hand-held DVC with the power drawn from the computer system, where the hand-held DVC remains coupled to the computer system via the data connector for the steps of transmitting, receiving, drawing and charging.
