  • Publication number: 20160227006
Abstract: A method is described to allow a device to retrieve a message, that is separated into a plurality of fragments, from a data source, wherein the method involves: establishing a first network connection with the data source; receiving a subset of the plurality of fragments; determining the first network connection has ended before completion of said message; establishing one or more subsequent network connections with the data source; and receiving any of the plurality of fragments not within the subset. The characteristics (for example: application protocol, security, speed, reach, bandwidth capability, cost of usage, network type, physical layer type, data-link layer type, or IP address of one or both of the first and second devices) of the first network connection can be potentially different than the subsequent network connections.

  • Publication number: 20160179964
Abstract: Systems, methods, and non-transitory computer-readable media can detect that a content item has been published. Information about the content item can be acquired. The information about the content item can be analyzed to determine a confidence metric for the content item. In some cases, the confidence metric can indicate a likelihood that the content item is associated with a narrative. It can be determined that the confidence metric for content item satisfies a specified threshold. The content item can be recommended to be included in the narrative.

  • Patent number: 9226604
Abstract: A device for holding a beverage container, such as an aluminum can, may include a holder and a stake. The stake may be driven into the ground to keep the beverage container relatively free from spillage and contamination. The holder may have minimal surface area in contact with the beverage container. The holder may also form an insulating air gap between the beverage container and the inner surface of the holder. The insulating air gap serves to help maintain a temperature of the contents of the beverage container.

  • Publication number: 20150202008
Abstract: Image-guided therapy of a tissue can utilize magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) or another medical imaging device to guide an instrument within the tissue. A workstation can actuate movement of the instrument, and can actuate energy emission and/or cooling of the instrument to effect treatment to the tissue. The workstation and/or an operator of the workstation can be located outside a vicinity of an MRI device or other medical imaging device, and drive means for positioning the instrument can be located within the vicinity of the MRI device or the other medical imaging device. The instrument can be an MRI compatible laser probe that provides thermal therapy to, e.g., a tissue in a brain of a patient.

  • Patent number: 8899018
Abstract: Through the use transfer functions, or other modeling types, directed toward the individual operation of an engine and after-treatment subsystems, an optimizer determines the trade-offs between fuel consumption, urea consumption, and reduction of NOx and PM emissions for each component of the integrated system. Evaluation of these trade-offs permits the optimizer to dictate how each component should be controlled, or adjusted, to achieve optimal fuel (and urea) consumption while meeting the constraints bounding the solution. Response characteristics can be triggered by adjusting certain engine operating levers in order to achieve optimal performance of the integrated system.

  • Patent number: 8870136
Abstract: The subject invention is a clamp that has two halves of an annular ring hingedly connected at one end and capable of being securely fastened to each other at the opposite end. The annular ring is sized to fit tightly around a vertical support post. An upper surface of the annular ring has an upper annular channel, while the lower surface of the annular ring has a lower annular channel. When the clamp is fixed to the vertical support post, a horizontal support adaptor may fit into both the upper and lower annular channels. A resilient engagement strip or button on the adaptor is placed into contact with the lower annular channel in this position and frictionally engages the lower annular channel to prevent lateral movement of the adaptor on the annular ring until such time as the adaptor may be securely attached to the annular ring.
