  • Publication number: 20060291799
Abstract: A method by a television includes considering only IEEE-1394 compliant recording devices discovered by a television for selection as a default recording device; disabling a discovered IEEE-1394 compliant recording device from a recording operation when the discovered recording device is without a desired recording feature; selecting a single discovered recording device as a default recording device for recording output from the television; and selecting one of multiple discovered IEEE-1394 compliant recording devices according to a criteria, when a particular one of the multiple discovered recording devices has not been selected by a television user.

  • Publication number: 20060294265
Abstract: An external device such as a digital recording/reproduction device may be controlled via a digital data bus using auto-play and/or auto-pause functions. According to an exemplary embodiment, a method for controlling an external device includes detecting initiation of one of a disconnection from the external device and a connection to the external device, providing a pause command signal to the external device via a digital data bus if the initiation of the disconnection from the external device is detected, and providing a play command signal to the external device via the digital data bus if the initiation of the connection to the external device is detected.

  • Publication number: 20060263040
Abstract: There is provided a method for indicating whether a program is capable of being fully recorded in a remaining storage space on a storage device. An on screen display device is configured as a grid having a first axis and a second axis. The first axis is for identifying the programming selections and the second axis is for identifying the respective broadcast times of the programming selections. Any of the programming selections currently capable of being fully recorded in the remaining storage space on the storage device are identified on the grid using a first distinctive visual identifier. Any of the programming selections that are currently incapable of being fully recorded in the remaining storage space on the storage device are identified on the grid using a second distinctive visual identifier.

  • Publication number: 20060221234
Abstract: An apparatus such as a television signal receiver controls an external device such as a digital recording/reproduction device via a digital data bus by remapping keys on a user input device. According to an exemplary embodiment, the apparatus includes an input/output terminal operative to enable signal transfer between the television signal receiver and an external device via a digital data bus. A processor is operative to detect a first command signal of a first control protocol from a user input device, and to detect one of first and second modes of the television signal receiver. The processor detects the first mode in response to making a connection between the television signal receiver and the external device via the digital data bus, and detects the second mode in response to terminating the connection between the television signal receiver and the external device via the digital data bus.

  • Publication number: 20060204208
Abstract: A method for selective control of a device for recording output from a viewing apparatus includes sending output for recording from a viewing apparatus to a recording device selected automatically by the viewing apparatus, responsive to the viewing apparatus being enabled for automatically selecting the recording device; and maintaining recording the output to a recording device designated by the viewing apparatus, responsive to the viewing apparatus being disabled from automatically selecting a recording device.

  • Publication number: 20050198282
Abstract: An apparatus and a method for controlling distribution of digital content from an device attached to a network to another device outside the network. The device receives a digital signal containing content, the digital signal having an authorization field indicative of a first transport mode authorizing the content for distribution outside the network, and of a second transport mode wherein the content is not authorized for transmission outside the network.

  • Publication number: 20050162549
Abstract: A combined de-interlacing and frame doubling system ( 114, 114? and 114?) advantageously serves to de-interlace successive lines of Present Field Video data at twice the field rate to yield an output bit stream suitable for display on display device that utilizes progressive scanning. The de-interlacing and frame doubling system in accordance with present principles includes a frame memory mechanism (116, 116? and 116?) for storing at least one frame of interlaced video having a prescribed field rate. At least one de-interlacing circuit (11401, 1140?1, 1140?) pulls at least two fields of video data from the memory mechanism at a rate of at least twice the field rate for performing a full de-interlacing function in half of a field period to generate the a progressive, frame doubled signal for receipt at the display device.

  • Publication number: 20050040539
Abstract: An integrated circuit die for a flip chip has circular die bond pads. Circular die bond pads allows for a higher density of bond pads when a mating printed circuit board has routing lines between its corresponding pads. In one form, there is provided a flip chip having a die and a plurality of die bond pads situated on the die. Each die bond pad of the die is circular.
