  • Publication number: 20230349801
Abstract: A rheological property, for example a thixotropy property, of a fluid such as a drilling fluid, can according to various examples be determined by performing a method that includes providing measurement apparatus having a flowline having a first diameter section and a second diameter section; pumping the drilling fluid along the flowline; measuring at least one differential pressure in the drilling fluid upstream in the second diameter section, using at least one upstream sensor; measuring at least one differential pressure in the drilling fluid downstream in the second diameter section, using at least one downstream sensor; and using the differential pressures from the second diameter section to determine the rheological property and/or the thixotropy property. A method of determining a gelation property of the fluid is also described. Various apparatus for use in determining the rheological property, the thixotropy property, and gelation property are also exemplified.

  • Publication number: 20230125603
Abstract: A flowmeter apparatus is for determining a volumetric flowrate for a well flow out from a wellbore, by means of a mass flowmeter, which is configured for receiving well flow and for measuring a mass flow rate of the well flow. At least one mass density measuring apparatus, is fluidly connected to the mass flowmeter upstream of a first inlet or downstream of a first outlet, or both. The mass flow rate of the well flow can be measured using a measuring wheel rotatably arranged below a funnel second section arranged to receive at least a portion of the well flow. A system for determining a volumetric flowrate for a well flow out from a wellbore includes the flowmeter apparatus arranged on a platform, rig, vessel, or other topside location, and connected between a riser and downstream processing equipment.

  • Patent number: 9605532
Abstract: A method is for determining the position of a lower portion of a drill string in a bore hole. The drill string comprises a number of drill string components, each drill string component being interconnected by means of at least one joint. Several ultrasonic sensors are arranged after each other along a drill string. The method comprises localizing the position of the chamfer of the joint relative to the ultrasonic sensors.

  • Patent number: 9175557
Abstract: Method and system for drilling control comprising a plurality of controllers adapted to control performance process parameters, on the basis of driller controls from a driller that provides this as instructions to said controllers, wherein the system further comprises sensors and means for obtaining process values, such as downhole pressure, temperature and torque, wherein the system is adapted to, continuously and/or repeatedly, calculate safeguard envelopes for performance process parameters on the basis of process values and drilling process models and that it is adapted to restrain said controllers from applying performance process parameters outside said safeguard envelopes as a result of driller instructions, and—a method and system for automatically triggering a remedying action in case of an evolving or existing critical situation, comprising calculation of process parameter boundaries which represent a critical condition for the well by using calibrated drilling process models, comprising (i) trigger

  • Publication number: 20140246243
Abstract: A device for the pressure regulation of a well is provided with a return pump for drilling fluid. The operating level of drilling fluid in an annulus which is fanned between an outer pipe and an inner pipe is at a height level between the upper portion of the outer pipe and the bottom portion of the well. The return pump is in the annulus.

  • Publication number: 20130332125
Abstract: An earth model comprising a plurality of regions in geological space; associated with each said region in geological space, at least one parameter function defined over a region in parameter space; associated with each region in geological space, at least one transformation which maps coordinates within the region of geological space to coordinates within the region of parameter space. This gridless approach to earth modelling allows much easier alteration of the structural model and the parameter data independently of each other, facilitating multiresolution evaluation of the model as well as easy production of multiple geological interpretations.
