    Abstract: A ram air fan bearing housing for a ram air fan assembly includes a bearing section, a disk section, and radial support ribs. The disk section is at one end of the bearing section for connecting the bearing section to the ram air fan assembly. The disk section includes an outer ring with a circumferential support rib; and a disk wall connecting the outer ring to the bearing section. The disk wall includes arcuate cooling slots defined by edges, including an arcuate edge having an arc center at an axis of the bearing housing and positioned adjacent to and radially inward from the circumferential support rib. The radial support ribs extend axially along most of the length of the bearing section and extend radially along the disk wall to the circumferential support rib. The radial support ribs and the cooling slots alternate about the axis of the bearing housing.

A bearing housing includes a body that defines a cylindrical portion and an annular flange at one end. The seal also includes an inner diameter provided between lateral sides defining a first width. The inner diameter provides a seal and configured to engage a rotating surface. The outer diameter to the inner diameter provides a first ratio of 1.30-1.31. The inner diameter to the first width provides a second ratio of 1.59-1.61. A rotor shaft is disposed in the seal and includes knife edges extending from the rotor shaft to the seal land. The rotor shaft supports the turbine and the compressor.

    Abstract: A turbine inlet housing has a main housing body extending about a central axis. An inlet duct delivers air into a cavity within the main housing body. Bolt hole bosses are formed on a downstream face of the inlet housing to receive bolts to secure an outlet housing to the inlet housing. A plurality of the bosses have a ramped surface which extends radially outwardly for a greater extent than a second plurality of bosses. The plurality of ramped bosses extend between the downstream face and the duct. The ramped bosses have a forward boss portion, and a ramped surface at an angle of between 50 and 54 degrees extending from an upstream end of the forward boss portion. A curved surface curves from an upstream end of the ramped surface to merge into the duct. A turbine stage and air cycle machine are also disclosed and claimed.

    Abstract: An air cycle machine has a housing which holds a compressor section, and a turbine section having an expansion area, and a fan section disposed outside of the housing. A shaft, which attaches to and is coaxial with the compressor section, the turbine section and the fan section, is supported by an air journal bearing and an air thrust bearing. The shaft has a hollow core for porting cooling air from the air journal bearing and the air thrust bearing, and a tube that extends into said expansion area and communicates cooling air from the turbine expansion area to the thrust bearing.
