Patent number: 11643794Abstract: A method for monitoring a machine operating at a worksite, is provided. The machine includes an implement for performing one or more implement operations and is configured to be propelled by a set of ground engaging members between a first location and second location. A first input indicative of start of a travelling operation of the machine after completion of a first implement operation at the first location, is received. One or more transmission parameters associated with the machine are determined, when the machine moves from first location to second location. A second input indicative of end of the travelling operation at start of a second implement operation at the second location is received. A number of revolutions completed by ground engaging members between the first location and the second location is determined based on the transmission parameters. The number of revolutions is displayed on input/output device associated with machine.Type: GrantFiled: October 12, 2020Date of Patent: May 9, 2023Assignee: Caterpillar Inc.Inventors: Eric Cler, Aaron Robert Shatters, Huzefa S Gulamhusein

Patent number: 10041229Abstract: A system for controlling an operation of a machine is disclosed. The system includes an image capturing device and a controller. The image capturing device generates a signal indicative of a surrounding area of the machine. The controller is in communication with the image capturing device. The controller determines a preceding work cycle of the machine comprising a dig segment and determines a preceding segment associated with the preceding work cycle to be a dump segment. The controller further identifies a work aggregate within the surrounding area of the machine, when the preceding segment of the preceding work cycle is the dump segment. Further, the controller determines a distance between an implement of the machine and the work aggregate and issues a shift request to downshift a gear drive of a transmission system of the machine, if the distance is less than a predefined distance.Type: GrantFiled: November 2, 2015Date of Patent: August 7, 2018Assignee: Caterpillar Inc.Inventors: Zhijun Cai, Bradley K. Bomer, Jeffrey S. Alig, Aaron R. Shatters, Eric Cler, Brad R. Van De Veer, Thomas E. Beccue

Publication number: 20140032056Abstract: An automatic transmission neutralizer system for a machine is disclosed. The system may comprise at least one sensor configured to detect a set of parameters of the machine, a transmission, and a control unit operatively in communication with the at least one sensor and the transmission. The control unit may be configured to: calculate a braking force of the machine and an external force on the machine using the set of parameters detected by the at least one sensor, compare the braking force to the external force, and selectively neutralize the transmission depending on input from the at least one sensor and the comparison of braking force to external force.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 24, 2012Publication date: January 30, 2014Applicant: CATERPILLAR, INC.Inventors: Eric Cler, Andrew Schifferer, Aaron Shatters

Publication number: 20060070773Abstract: A work machine may have a payload overload control system. The system may include a payload carrier and a lift mechanism configured to raise and lower the payload carrier. The system may further include a payload monitor configured to determine a payload in the payload carrier. The system may also include a controller configured to compare the determined payload with a predetermined maximum payload and to selectively control lift of the payload carrier by the lift mechanism based on the comparison between the determined payload and the predetermined maximum payload.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 6, 2004Publication date: April 6, 2006Inventors: Kristofor Dahl, Eric Cler, Wei Li, Randy Aneloski
