The initial RAM disk image includes a file system that includes a camera application. The kernel is invoked, and the kernel mounts a RAM disk from the initial RAM disk image as a root file system. The kernel causes an initiation of the camera application into a user space. The camera application obtains an image frame from a camera. The camera application processes the image frame to generate a processed image frame, and provides the processed image frame to a frame buffer for presentation of the processed image frame on a display device.

    Abstract: This disclosure provides devices, systems, methods, and techniques for booting up an operating system with an initial scalable filesystem. An example method includes loading, from a non-transitory and non-volatile memory, a bootloader into a random access memory (RAM). The method includes loading, by the bootloader, a kernel into the RAM. The method includes initializing, by the kernel, an initial filesystem to load storage drivers relevant to the hardware resources for starting essential storage components. The method includes, when the initial filesystem is initialized, mounting, by a processing device, an overlay filesystem onto the initial filesystem of the RAM. The method further includes transitioning, upon completion of system initialization tasks in the overlay filesystem, from the overlay filesystem to a target root filesystem.

    Abstract: A computing device can implement hybrid partitioning to apply a software update. The computing device can receive an update file to generate an updated version of software of the computing device. The update file can correspond to an update request generated while running an active system configuration of the computing device. The computing device can generate an updated system configuration by applying the update file to an inactive system configuration of the computing device associated with a first partition while the active system configuration corresponding to a second partition remains operational. Additionally, the computing device can generate an updated directory in a system partition of the computing device based on the update file. The updated directory can correspond to the updated system configuration. The computing device can modify a partition table associated with the first and second partitions such that the computing device boots using the updated system configuration.

As one example, a system can deploy a virtual machine in a host computing environment of the computing device. The host computing environment can include a host operating system that is configured to use a first memory page size. The virtual machine can be configured to use a second memory page size that is different from the first memory page size. Based on a software program being configured to use the second memory page size, the system can execute the software program in the virtual machine.

    Abstract: Kernels can be securely booted while having customizable command line functionality. For example, a boot loader can initiate a kernel boot using a unified kernel image (UKI) that is cryptographically signed with a cryptographic signature and includes two or more command lines that are protected by the cryptographic signature. The two or more command lines can implement different functionalities with respect to the kernel boot. The boot loader can extract the two or more command lines from the signed UKI. A command line of the two or more command lines can be selected by a user to complete the kernel boot. Once the command line is selected, the boot loader can execute the command line to complete the kernel boot using the command line.

    Abstract: Services can be executed on nodes using initial random access memory disk (initrd) schemes. For example, a system can receive, from an orchestrator node, a request to execute a service at a host node. The request can include data indicative of the service, and the host node can include an initrd scheme. The system can determine that the service is available for execution at the host node based on the service being included in the initrd scheme. In response to determining that the service is available, the system can further transmit a notification to the orchestrator node indicating that the service is available for execution at the host node. Additionally, the system can execute the service on the host node as part of executing the initrd scheme.
