Patent number: 9701462Abstract: A carton for a wheelbarrow kit having a hopper with rim portion and a tapered bucket portion, the carton structured to enclose the rim portion of the hopper and having a first opening allowing the bucket portion of the hopper to extend out of the carton. The carton further provides a second opening generally aligned with the first opening, but disposed on the side of the carton opposed to the first opening. The hopper is inverted in the carton so that the rim is disposed at the bottom of the carton and the hopper extends upwardly. In this configuration, multiple cartons enclosing wheelbarrow kits may be stacked on top of each other with the hopper of a lower carton extending upwardly through the second opening of the adjacent carton and into the partially enclosed space of the hopper in the carton above.Type: GrantFiled: August 17, 2006Date of Patent: July 11, 2017Assignee: The Ames Companies, Inc.Inventors: Eric D. Hyp, William J. Logan

Publication number: 20130036877Abstract: A coupling for an elongated handle and a tool head is provided. The coupling may be positioned at the handle upper end after the handle upper end has passed through the tool head eye. The coupling is a frustoconical shape which engages the tool head in a manner of a slip eye coupling. However, because the lower end of the handle does not pass through the tool head eye, the lower end of the handle, i.e., the grip, may have any shape. Thus, the present invention allows for use of a slip eye coupling while also allowing the handle grip to be of any shape.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 6, 2012Publication date: February 14, 2013Applicant: AMES TRUE TEMPER, INC.Inventors: Joshua O. MULLEN, Eric D. HYP, David BOIES

Publication number: 20100109269Abstract: A wheelbarrow axle bracket that is also a handle end cap structured to enclose the forward end of each wheelbarrow handle member. As each end cap is disposed in the same general location that a traditional axle bracket would occupy, the end cap includes an axle support structured to be rotatably coupled to an axle.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 4, 2008Publication date: May 6, 2010Applicant: Ames True Temper, Inc.Inventors: BARRY R. ALBERT, Eric D. Hyp

Patent number: 7441812Abstract: A linear compression latch includes a lever handle linked to a pawl. As the latch is opened, the pawl is initially constrained to move vertically within a carriage. After an intermediate position is achieved, the pawl is constrained to move horizontally within the carriage.Type: GrantFiled: August 23, 2001Date of Patent: October 28, 2008Assignee: Southco, Inc.Inventors: Thomas Welsh, Eric D. Hyp, Richard C. Saile

Patent number: 7331587Abstract: A wheelbarrow including a wheel guard having tines with a reduced lateral width. The wheelbarrow has a frame assembly with two handle assemblies that are angled toward each other terminating in a forward yoke. The wheel guard has a bight, a first and second tine, each tine having a proximal end structured to be coupled to the bight and distal end structured to be coupled to the wheelbarrow yoke. Each tine has a longitudinal axis that is generally aligned with a handle assembly longitudinal axis. The first and second tine distal ends each have a first lateral thickness and each first and second tine proximal end has a second lateral thickness. The first and second tine distal end first lateral thickness is greater than the first and second tine proximal end second lateral thickness.Type: GrantFiled: July 26, 2006Date of Patent: February 19, 2008Assignee: Ames True Temper, Inc.Inventors: Eric D. Patent number: 7073231Abstract: Reliable and durable tether clips that continue to tether two panels together while allowing for a controlled displacement between the two panels in response to a predetermined force are disclosed. The tether clips according to the present invention include a first retaining means near a first end that is adapted to be securable to a first panel, a second retaining means that is engageable with the second panel and limits the relative separation between the panels, and a releasable fastener means intermediate the first and second retaining means that normally maintains the two panels in a closed configuration relative to one another but that releases at least one of the panels relative to the other panel in response to a predetermined force tending to separate the panels.Type: GrantFiled: October 2, 2002Date of Patent: July 11, 2006Assignee: Southco, Inc.Inventors: Kraig D. Draggoo, Eric D. Hyp, Loc B. Tieu, David A. Minnich, William E. Sokurenko

Patent number: 6761278Abstract: An ambidextrous lid assembly that allows a lid to be opened from either side of a compartment is disclosed. The lid assembly includes at least a first frame member adapted to be pivotally attached proximate the compartment opening. The first frame member has an opening that allows access therethrough to at least a portion of the interior of the compartment when the first frame member is closed against the perimeter of the compartment opening. The lid assembly includes a second frame member that is pivotally attached to the first frame member and either by itself or in cooperation with a lid cover provides a closure for the opening in the first frame member. The first frame member carries a latch for securing it about the opening, and the second frame member carries a latch for securing it to the first frame member.Type: GrantFiled: April 30, 2002Date of Patent: July 13, 2004Assignee: Southco, Inc.Inventors: Eric D. Hyp, John Andrew Erikson

Patent number: 6730867Abstract: The present invention is directed to a latch that includes a housing, a pawl pivotally supported by the housing and movable between a latched position and an unlatched position, a spring biasing the pawl toward the unlatched position, and a locking member being rotationally movable about an axis of rotation between an open position and a locked position. The locking member interferes with the movement of the pawl such that the pawl is maintained in the latched position when the pawl is in the latched position and the locking member is in the locked position. The locking member allows the pawl to move to the unlatched position when the locking member is in the open position. The latch may further include a motor housing, a lockplug, a lockplug member, at least one roller switch, at least one gearbox, and a motor.Type: GrantFiled: July 6, 2001Date of Patent: May 4, 2004Assignee: Southco, Inc.Inventor: Eric D.
