  • Patent number: 6890465
Abstract: Methods for the manufacture of reinforcing preforms for structural composite products. Minimum contact eyelets reduce friction in the supply provide chopped reinforcing materials to both of said first and second mold members, and spraying said chopped reinforcing materials into both of said first and second mold members.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: February 7, 2003
Date of Patent: May 10, 2005
    Assignee: Ford Motor Company
Inventors: Jeffrey Scott Dahl, Eric Daniel Kleven, Gerald Norman Chavka, Carl Frederick Johnson
  • Patent number: 6749254
Abstract: A body panel assembly having an inner panel and an outer panel. The outer panel has a greater coefficient of thermal expansion than the inner panel. An adhesive is disposed between the inner panel and the outer panel. A portion of the outer panel is hemmed to the inner panel to join the inner and outer panels together. A scrim pad may be provided between inner and outer panels to inhibit galvanic corrosion.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: June 9, 2003
Date of Patent: June 15, 2004
    Assignee: Ford Global Technologies, LLC
Inventors: Eric Daniel Kleven, Kimberly Ann Lazarz, Matthew John Zaluzec, Rama P Koganti
  • Publication number: 20030118681
Abstract: Methods and systems for the manufacture of reinforcing preforms for structural composite products. Minimum contact eyelets reduce friction in the supply system for string reinforcing materials. Also, preforms of various configurations and thicknesses can be produced.
    Type: Application
    Filed: February 7, 2003
    Publication date: June 26, 2003
Inventors: Jeffrey Scott Dahl, Eric Daniel Kleven, Norman Gerald Chavka, Carl Frederick Johnson
  • Patent number: 6540495
Abstract: System for the manufacture of reinforcing preforms for structural composite products. The air flows for the manufacturing stations are optimized by providing a separate air system for each cell and providing seals between the net-edge blocks and the mold portions.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: January 11, 2001
Date of Patent: April 1, 2003
    Assignee: Ford Global Technologies, Inc.

  • Publication number: 20020086073
Abstract: Methods and systems for the manufacture of reinforcing preforms for structural composite products. The air flows for the manufacturing stations are optimized by providing a separate air system for each cell and providing seals between the net-edge blocks and the mold portions. An adjustable valve in the air system to the material applicator (chopper-gun) allows use of different materials and manufacture of preforms having different thickness and configurations.
