Patent number: 9537999Abstract: Methods, systems and devices for implementing different modes or persona of a wireless communication device that allow the wireless communication device to function as multiple devices corresponding to conditions and circumstances that may be defined by an enterprise. Operating modes or persona may be defined by a set of operating characteristics that may include user permissions, device functionality, capabilities enabled, and user restrictions that may be selected by the enterprise. Automatic switching between modes/persona may be controlled through triggers based on any of location, proximity, time, and context of the wireless communication device. Automatic switching of mode control capabilities may also controlled through such triggers, enabling an enterprise to limit the ability of users to override the automatic mode/persona implemented in response to an enterprise-defined trigger.Type: GrantFiled: February 8, 2016Date of Patent: January 3, 2017Assignee: QUALCOMM IncorporatedInventors: Daphna Zeilingold, Stephen Alton Sprigg, Ronen Stern, Vicki Christine Mealer-Burke, Michael-David Nakayoshi Canoy, Eric Darnell Larkin, Sr., Kristin Parsley Atkins, Susan Lynn Silveira

Publication number: 20140007328Abstract: A helmet having a chin bar fastened at two points on each side of the shell. The shell is molded with recessed portions designed to receive the two branches of the chin bar on each side where they will be fastened to the shell so that the outer surfaces of the chin guard are flush with the shell at the locations of attachment to provide a smooth transition and reduce weight. An adjustment device to adjust the fit of the helmet to the user includes a star wheel on each side of the helmet attached to an arcuate flexible strip extending rearwardly around the occipital area of the skull. A sliding mechanism attached to the strip allows the strip to be moved forward and backward to allow it to be tightened or loosened, respectively, with respect to the player's head. A ratcheting lateral adjustment device is also disclosed.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 30, 2013Publication date: January 9, 2014Applicant: BAUER PERFORMANCE LACROSSE INC.Inventors: William H. Publication number: 20130312162Abstract: The helmet uses a new fastener to fasten a cage to the helmet shell allowing sides of the cage to be mounted directly against the shell, reducing the width of the shell on each side. A ball is attached to a portion of a bar of the cage to act as a limit stop precluding movements of the cage with respect to the helmet. A chin bar is fastened to the helmet at two points on each side of the shell. The shell is molded with recessed portions designed to receive the two branches of the chin bar on each side where they will be fastened to the shell so that the outer surfaces of the chin guard are flush with the shell at the locations of attachment to provide a smooth transition and reduce weight. Patent number: 8220069Abstract: Embodiments of an eye protector are made of a molded plastic part connected with a metal part. The plastic part consists of a generally C-shaped configuration with an elongated portion overlying the eyebrows and arcuate fingers designed to overlie the wearer's cheekbones. The metallic part includes an arcuate portion staggered significantly forwardly with respect to the plastic part. The horizontal stagger virtually precludes a ball from impacting on both the plastic part and the metallic part simultaneously, and the thin profile of the metallic part causes deflection of a ball rather than rebound. Embodiments also include a downwardly depending inverted V-shaped portion that protects the wearer's face below the eyes.Type: GrantFiled: September 29, 2009Date of Patent: July 17, 2012Inventors: William H. Brine, III, Jonathan Baker, Eric Darnell, Steve Moore, Joel Robinson, C. Graham Tuttle

Patent number: 7823217Abstract: The eye guard, while complying with ASTM F803-03, has been ergonometrically designed to comfortably fit on the user's face, and to provide openings for the eyes allowing clear vision while at the same time protecting the eyes from impacts from a lacrosse ball. The eye openings are completely open and have dimensions intended to preclude a lacrosse ball from passing therethrough. The upper edges of the eye openings are displaced rearwardly with respect to the lower edges a sufficient distance to preclude a lacrosse ball from striking the two edges simultaneously in a direction that could possibly cause an eye impact. That displacement is specifically devised to cause a lacrosse ball striking one or the other of the edges to be deflected away from the eyes of the player. The upper edge of the eye openings also defines the lower edge of a visor surface. That visor surface transitions from the openings to the rearward edge of the eye guard where it engages the face of the user above the eyes.Type: GrantFiled: January 11, 2008Date of Patent: November 2, 2010Inventors: William H. Brine, III, Jonathan Baker, Eric Darnell, Steve Moore, Joel Robinson, Barclay Moore

Publication number: 20100258988Abstract: Lateral displacement shock absorbing arrays include features allowing them to be effectively installed in environments including helmets having arcuate surfaces. Slotted webbing between adjacent tubes permits their respective axes to tilt with respect to one another to accommodate helmet shape. In this way, the slotted webbing permits each tube to assume an orientation with its axis perpendicular to a tangent to the outer surface of the helmet at that location so that the tube is best aligned with likely impacts. Plural arrays may be assembled together in numerous ways including using a piece of material to which they may be affixed through any one of numerous ways including tabs and slots, posts and holes, stapling, adhesives, laminating, and integrally molding the arrays and material as a one piece assembly. A variety of peripheral shapes for the tubes of the arrays are also contemplated as are numerous materials of construction.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 12, 2010Publication date: October 14, 2010Inventors: Eric Darnell, William H. Brine, III, Stephen D. Moore, Joel Robinson

Patent number: 7677538Abstract: A lateral displacement shock absorbing material includes a material consisting of elongated tubular impact absorbing members, each having an axis of elongation. The axes of elongation are parallel to one another by virtue of lateral webbing interconnecting them together. Each of the tubular members has an outer surface made up of two frustoconical surfaces with their larger diameter ends abutting one another and their smaller diameter ends facing away from one another. Each tubular member includes a passageway defined by two frustoconical shapes with the smaller diameter ends abutting one another, and the larger diameter ends facing away from one another and defining the openings of each passageway. Upon impact, the side walls of the tubular members bulge or displace laterally to absorb impacts.Type: GrantFiled: September 20, 2005Date of Patent: March 16, 2010Inventors: Eric Darnell, William Brine, III
