Abstract: A main screen renders watermarked content. A remote device captures a watermark and extracts a payload comprising a layout type, displays possible answers according to the layout type and receives a response from a user. The remote device captures a further watermark and extracts a payload comprising a correct answer, a ratio value and a token value. If the correct answer is equal to the answer received from the user, the remote device generates a comparison value, compares the comparison value and a ratio value extracted from the payload and, if the comparison between the comparison value and the ratio value indicates that remote device has been selected, displays a message intended to a user. The remote device can further generate a value from at least the token value and display this value as proof of being selected.

Abstract: A second screen system comprises a first screen that renders a first content comprising watermarks of a first type and watermarks of a second type. The watermarks of the first type are captured by a second screen that reacts to these watermarks. The second screen displays information to a user and receives user input. The second screen also watermarks a second content with watermarks of the second type and renders the second content. A third device captures watermarks of the second type in both the first content and the second content. Since the watermarks embedded by the second screen can depend on the user's actions, the third device can indirectly react to the user's actions.

Abstract: Disclosed here are inventive systems and methods for a powertrain of an electric vehicle (EV). In some embodiments, said powertrain includes a continuously variable transmission (CVT) coupled to an electric drive motor, wherein a control system is configured to control the CVT and/or the drive motor to optimize various efficiencies associated with the EV and/or its subsystems. In one specific embodiment, the control system is configured to operate the EV in an economy mode. Operating in said mode, the control system simultaneously manages the CVT and the drive motor to optimize the range of the EV. The control system can be configured to manage the current provided to the drive motor, as well as adjust a transmission speed ratio of the CVT. Other modes of operation are also disclosed. The control system can be configured to manage the power to the drive motor and adjust the transmission speed ratio of the CVT taking into account battery voltage, throttle position, and transmission speed ratio, for example.

Abstract: A content server maintains a database of different content files, these files being scrambled by control words that are stored in a database. The control words are necessary for descrambling the content files. When a device requests a content file, it sends a public key to the content server, along with the request. The content server encrypts the control words with the public key and transmits both the ciphered control words and the scrambled content file to the device. In one embodiment, the device decrypts the control words, and, when a further device on the home network requests a content file, sends the scrambled content file, along with the necessary control words encrypted with a local key that may have been provided by the further device.

Abstract: The invention relates to a method for controlling digital rights of the “Play N times” type for a digital audio and/or video content, referred to as controlled content, the controlled content being consumed by a consumer on a consuming device or on another device delegating the controlling of these rights to the consuming device. According to this method, charging of one additional usage is inhibited in at least one of the following cases where: the consumer momentarily consumes another content, on the same device where the controlled content is consumed, and then returns to the controlled content; the consumer effects a pause in the usage of the controlled content; the consumer performs a fast-forward of the controlled content; or the consumer performs a rewind of the controlled content.

Abstract: A receiver receives digital content scrambled using a control word and a user code for the scrambled content. A user inputs the user code that is forwarded to a code extractor that generates the control word and a user identifier from it. The control word is sent to a descrambler, a watermark information generator and a visible watermark insertion unit. The descrambler descrambles the scrambled content using the control word, an invisible watermark insertion unit inserts invisible watermark information obtained from the watermark information generator into the descrambled content and the visible watermark insertion unit inserts the user identifier as a visible watermark. Also provided are a corresponding method for processing digital content and a method and a device for generating the user code.

Abstract: A method of protecting a graphical object represented by a list of vertices and a list of surfaces, each surface being defined by a number N vertices. A device selects a surface S with N vertices; computes a new vertex d using a random or pseudo-random function; inserts the new vertex d into the list of vertices; creates N new surfaces S1-SN from the surface S and the new vertex d; and replaces the selected surface S by the new surfaces S1-SN in the list of surfaces. The device preferably iterates the method. The device may shuffle the list of vertices with the inserted vertices. Also provided is an unprotection method and corresponding devices and computer readable storage media.

Abstract: A method for secured entry of personal data is disclosed. This method comprises for each item of personal data a first step of presentation of a virtual keyboard comprising keys and a first cursor, followed by a step of selection of a key corresponding to the item of personal data wherein the virtual keyboard also comprises at least one dummy cursor and wherein the position on the virtual keyboard of the at least one dummy cursor depends on the position of the first cursor. A device for secured entry of personal data configured to implement the method is further disclosed.

Abstract: A cartridge preferably for use with a game console. The cartridge comprises a ROM, a non-volatile memory, a processor and an encryption unit. An application running on the console may read data from the ROM, read data from the non-volatile memory, and write data in the non-volatile memory. Data to be written in the non-volatile memory is encrypted by the encryption unit, but data to be read is returned in encrypted form for decryption by a decryption function of the game application. Data may also be received encrypted to be decrypted and returned. The encryption or decryption unit may also receive data from the non-volatile memory and send it to the interface. The invention improves on the prior art copy protection as a hacker must reverse engineer the game application in order to copy it, if the encryption unit is unknown. The invention also provides an optical medium equipped with a RFID circuit.

Abstract: A method for service delivery to a client, in which the client selects a service, and establishes a connection with a system server to which it sends an identity associated with the client and an identifier of the service. The system server verifies that the client is authorized to access to the service and that the client is non-emulated. If this is verified, the service is provided to the client. In a preferred embodiment, the service is scrambled content and the system server provides a descrambling key to the client, and instructs a content server to provide the scrambled content to the client. Also claimed are a device, a system, and a system server.

Abstract: A media package storing program code, the media package comprising a medium storing a first part of the program code intended to be executed on a processor external to the media package, and a processing device storing a state and a second part of the program code, the first and the second parts of the program code being adapted to interact when executed so as to execute the program code. The processing device comprises a processor for verifying the state and for executing the second part of the program code if the verification of the state indicates that this is authorized; and a first interface for communication with the processor external to the media package. Abstract: There are times when a first user may wish to distribute an excerpt of a protected digital content to a second user, for example for criticism. The protected digital content is divided into a plurality of parts, each part being encrypted using a control word specific for the part, wherein each control word can be generated from a master control word for the protected digital content. A device belonging to the first user selects the parts of the excerpt; generates the control words for the selected parts from the master control word; generates a license for the selected parts, the license comprising the control words for the selected parts; and transmits the selected parts and the license to the receiver of the second user. Also provided is the device of the first user.

Abstract: A secure pre-recorded medium and a method for descrambling encrypted content thereon. When a player wants to access the content, a secure processor on the medium verifies that the player has not been revoked, preferably by comparing an identity of the player with identities in a revocation list, after which a mutual authentication is performed. The secure processor then verifies that the player has the rights to access the content and provides the player with the key necessary to descramble the content, whereafter the player descrambles the content.

Abstract: A method for secure installation of software applications. The user receives the software, partly encrypted, and an installation token for a number of licenses from the software provider, plugs the software and the installation token into a computer, and launches the installation application. A Secure Authenticated Channel is established between the installation application and the installation token and a unique identifier of the computer is sent thereon to the installation token. The installation token verifies that there are remaining licenses, decreases the remaining licenses, authorizes the installation and sends the decryption key and a certificate/key pair to the installation application that decrypts and installs the software, preferably linking the installation to the computer's identifier.

Abstract: The invention relates to pairing a slave device with a master device, for example decoders in a conditional access system. There is provided a security module that stores a device state that indicates whether a decoder shall be a master or a slave decoder. There is also provided a method in a conditional access system of providing a device with a device state stored on a security module. It is detected that the security module is in connection with the device and the device state is transferred from the security module to the device. There is further provided a method of pairing a slave device with a master device. The slave device asks the master device to identify itself, the master device returns an identification, and if the slave device has not yet been paired with a master device, it checks the identity of the master device and, if the identity is verified pairs with the master device. There is also provided a first, slave, device for pairing with a second, master, device.

Abstract: The invention relates to a method of game management between a game management center and at least one remote game terminal, comprising a step of request of at least one game ticket, from the game terminal, and a step of presentation of the game ticket, by the game terminal. It furthermore comprises, before the step of presentation, a step of generation, by the game management center, of a win indicator determining whether the game ticket presented is a winner or a loser; and a step of transmission by the game management center and to the game terminal, of a result containing said win indicator. During the presentation step, the game terminal generates at least one representation of the game ticket as a function of the result transmitted and presents said game ticket under this representation.
