Abstract: Methods and systems for the distribution of timing information in cellular networks. Coarse timing information is distributed from base stations to mobile devices using conventional signalling techniques. Fine timing information is distributed form base stations to mobile devices by using the fine timing information to modulate a carrier signal. The modulation format is such that the average value of the carrier signal is not affected by the modulation. The carrier signal may be a series of values, for example timing advance update commands.

Abstract: A base station of a cellular telecommunications network is provided, the base station being adapted to: receive a channel quality indicator ‘CQI’ from a user equipment ‘UE’; determine an indication of radio conditions at a first time contributing to the received CQI; and, schedule actions or instructions, including selecting a modulation and coding scheme ‘MCS’, in accordance with an adjusted CQI, wherein the adjusted CQI is calculated by: determining an indication of radio conditions at a second time later than the first time; and, evaluating the indication of radio conditions at the second time against the indication of radio conditions contributing to the received CQI. A method and computer readable storage medium are also provided.
