Publication number: 20140007630Abstract: A lock assembly for use with a latch movable from an extended position to a retracted position, and the lock assembly includes an interior assembly and an exterior assembly. The interior assembly includes an interior handle manually movable to retract the latch and a locking member manually operable such that the locking member is movable from an unlocked position to a locked position. The exterior assembly includes an exterior handle manually operable to retract the latch when the locking member is in the unlocked position and inoperable to retract the latch when the locking member is in the locked position. The exterior assembly further includes a biasing member that biases the locking member toward the unlocked position. When the locking member is in the locked position, movement of the interior handle to retract the latch causes the biasing member to move the locking member to the unlocked position.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 20, 2013Publication date: January 9, 2014Inventors: Rick L. Brannaman, Eric E. Fishencord, Sajil J. Mathachan, Michael D. Rainone, Michael S. Justis, Sachin J. Keni, Milind A. Ghumre

Patent number: 7063363Abstract: A retainer apparatus including a retainer clip having a back component, a pair of side plate components, and a pair of front plate components that hold a retractor mechanism for extending and retracting a latch of a lock assembly. The retainer apparatus allows the retractor mechanism to be pre-assembled, ready for connection to a pre-assembled chassis of the lock assembly. One embodiment of the retainer clip is a single formed piece having a back component with at least one post for supporting a spring, side components to provide a bearing surface to slide the retractor mechanism, and front components angled inward to retain the retractor mechanism and the latch. A plurality of prongs extend from the retainer clip to receive the chassis of the lock assembly.Type: GrantFiled: February 13, 2003Date of Patent: June 20, 2006Assignee: Schlage Lock CompanyInventor: Eric E. Patent number: 7036856Abstract: A spring cage assembly that includes a housing, a plurality of springs, and a drive spindle. The housing includes a centrally located opening and a plurality of housing tabs located radially around the opening underneath the housing. The plurality of springs are biased against the housing tabs. The drive spindle includes a first and a second end. The first end extends through the opening for connection to a door lever. The second end is integral with a torque plate having a plurality of plate tabs. The plate tabs compress the springs against the housing tabs in biasing rotation of the drive spindle.Type: GrantFiled: March 5, 2003Date of Patent: May 2, 2006Assignee: Schlage Lock CompanyInventor: Eric E. Patent number: 6988751Abstract: The invention is an anti-rotational lock chassis for a retractable latch. The lock chassis includes a first hub having at least one flat side and a second hub with a thread exterior. An internally threaded plate receives the externally threaded hub. The flat-sided plate receives the flat-sided hub. Each plate is positioned between a spring cage assembly and the chassis. The spring cage assembly includes a drive spindle that rotates to extend and retract the latch to secure access through a door. A connecting element interconnects the spring case assemblies. Cutouts in each plate engage the connecting elements, thereby constraining the plates and chassis from rotating inside the door.Type: GrantFiled: March 5, 2003Date of Patent: January 24, 2006Assignee: Schlage Lock CompanyInventor: Eric E.
