Abstract: For backing up of data from a source to a destination, a virtual tape library (VTL) appliance intercepts a message for backing up the data. In response to the intercepted message, the VTL appliance sends a command to initiate the backing up of the data. A network attached storage (NAS) server, which is the source of the data and is coupled to the VTL appliance by a network, receives the command. An agent located in the NAS server is triggered in response to the command to directly transfer the data from the source to the destination. The agent informs the VTL appliance upon completion of the transfer of the data.

Abstract: An apparatus, method and product for selecting an iSCSI target for us in automatically booting a remote initiator is disclosed. A policy engine is created for use in a discovery domain of an iSCSI device. A boot attribute setting within the policy engine is set for selecting an iSCSI target to allow the remote initiator to automatically log onto the selected target for booting.

Abstract: A system, method, and module for reducing power states for storage devices and associated logical volumes are disclosed. In one form, a method of altering an operating state of a storage device can include detecting a request to access a first logical volume over an interval. The method can also include determining an association of a storage device to the first logical volume. The method can further include determining if the storage device is operably associated with a second logical volume, and altering an operating state of the storage device in response to detecting the request and determining the association with the second logical volume.

Abstract: Systems and methods for data storage and backup are disclosed. A system for data storage and backup may include a storage array comprising one or more storage resources and an agent running on a host device, the agent communicatively coupled to the storage array. The agent may be operable to automatically allocate one or more storage resources for the storage of data associated with a backup job of the hose device and communicate the data associated with the backup job to the allocated storage resources.
