  • Publication number: 20070172902
Abstract: The present invention provides a protein-based biomarker that is useful in qualifying ovarian cancer status in a patient. In particular, the biomarker of this invention is useful to classify a subject sample as ovarian cancer or non-ovarian cancer. The biomarker can be detected by SELDI mass spectrometry.

  • Publication number: 20070113562
Abstract: Methods and apparatus for fast starting and loading a combined cycle power system are described. In one example embodiment, the method includes loading the gas turbine at up to it's maximum rate, and loading the steam turbine at its maximum rate with excess steam bypassed to the condenser while maintaining the temperature of steam supplied to the steam turbine at a substantially constant temperature from initial steam admission into the steam turbine until all steam generated by the heat recovery steam generator is being admitted to the steam turbine while the gas turbine operates at up to maximum load.

  • Publication number: 20070054329
Abstract: The present invention provides protein-based biomarkers and biomarker combinations that are useful in qualifying ovarian cancer status as well as endometrical cancer status in a patient. In particular, it has been found that hepcidin is a biomarker for both ovarian cancer and endometrial cancer and that a panel of biomarkers, including hepcidin, transthyretin and optionally other markers are useful to classify a subject sample as ovarian cancer or non-ovarian cancer. The biomarkers can be detected by SELDI mass spectrometry.

  • Publication number: 20050064511
Abstract: The present invention relates to the identification and use of polypeptides that bind to antibodies directed to a desired polypeptide of interest. Using natriuretic peptides and their precursors, and in particular BNP, as an example, the present invention describes a number of natriuretic peptides fragments produced in biological samples, most preferably blood-derived samples, that bind to antibodies directed to BNP. Because production of such fragments is an ongoing process that may be a function of, inter alia, the elapsed time between onset of an event triggering natriuretic peptide release into the tissues and the time the sample is obtained or analyzed; the elapsed time between sample acquisition and the time the sample is analyzed; the type of tissue sample at issue; the storage conditions; the quantity of proteolytic enzymes present; etc.

  • Patent number: 6311600
Abstract: An electric power cable sheath cutter for longitudinally slicing an outer metallic sheath of a power cable include a frame arranged to be clamped by clamps to each end of a selected longitudinal section of the power cable. A carriage, slidingly mounted to the frame, has rollers that embrace an outer surface of the power cable so that the carriage “floats” on the cable in use. A milling tool with its drive motor is supported on the carriage and is adjustable up and down to enable a depth to be chosen. As a result, the sheath is cut through and inner strands of the power cable are not damaged. The effective depth of the remote end of the cutting tool is controlled by operation of a first motor 20, and the carriage is driven along in use the frame by a second motor so that the cutter can operate automatically without close manual supervision.
