  • Patent number: 10944559
Abstract: Binary data relating to a movable barrier operator is converted to ternary data. The ternary data is converted into corresponding binary information in a way not mirroring the first conversion method. In one approach, this second conversion converts each ternary trit into a corresponding binary pair. Initial binary bits correspond to, for example, fixed and/or non-fixed information.

  • Patent number: 7724126
Abstract: Operating parameters as were previously learned by a first movable barrier operator (18) are transferred to a second movable barrier operator (10) such as, for example, to a replacement movable barrier operator. Pursuant to a preferred approach, such information transfer occurs via a receiver interface (13) that ordinarily serves to couple the movable barrier operator (10) to one or more remote user interfaces (11). Pursuant to one approach this transfer occurs during a learning mode of operation.

  • Patent number: 7561075
Abstract: Ternary data as corresponds to a movable barrier operator is provided (21) and converted (22) into corresponding binary information. In a preferred approach this comprises converting each ternary trit into a corresponding binary pair. Pursuant to a preferred approach binary bits as correspond to, for example, fixed and/or non-fixed information (32 and 33) are provided (31) and then converted (34) into the aforementioned ternary data.

  • Patent number: 7482774
Abstract: In a movable object system (10) that makes use of both a maintained count (31) that corresponds to movement of a given object and passpoint events (32) as generated by a corresponding passpoint signal generator (15), count zones (34, 37, 36A, 36B) can be defined for at least one of the passpoint events. Such count zones can be used to aid in determining when significant recalibration of the passpoint event/count value relationships should be undertaken. In a preferred embodiment, such count zones include no more than a single passpoint event.

  • Publication number: 20080048601
Abstract: This invention deals with a barrier operator system comprising a direct current (dc) motor coupled to a barrier, where the dc motor is driven by a string of voltage pulses. The system has a barrier operator that is programmed to determine various qualities including the speed of the motor from a generated voltage and a position of the barrier using the speed. Further, the barrier operator has the capability to adjust the speed of the motor based upon the determined position of the barrier using the speed.

  • Publication number: 20070075669
Abstract: A barrier operator comprises a first measuring apparatus for measuring a current used by a direct current (dc) motor to move a barrier and a second measuring apparatus for measuring a generated voltage of the dc motor. A controller is coupled to the first measuring apparatus and the second measuring apparatus. The controller is programmed to calculate a torque of the dc motor by using the current and to determine when an obstruction exists in the path of the barrier based upon the calculated torque.

  • Patent number: 7154377
Abstract: In a movable barrier operator, data that corresponds to force requirements to effect desired movement of a movable barrier is compressed and stored for later retrieval. Multiple compression schemes and/or compression rates can be made available. Selection of a given scheme or rate can be determined on a user-directed or an automatic basis. Automatic selection in turn can be based on various criteria including, for example, presently available memory resources.

  • Patent number: 7132813
Abstract: A barrier movement operator moves a barrier between open and closed positions. The operator receives a first request to move the barrier. The actual force required to move the barrier is measured. An obstruction to barrier movement is determined by comparing the measured actual force to a first predetermined force threshold. Responsive to the detection of an obstruction, the direction of travel of the barrier is reversed. The operation of the barrier movement operator is modified, by permitting the use of a higher force threshold in future measurements. A second request to move the barrier is received. The actual force required to move the barrier is measured a second time. An obstruction to barrier movement is detected by comparing the measured actual force with the new, higher force threshold.
