  • Publication number: 20130100021
Abstract: Systems and methods incorporating an embedded sensor in a control stick to detect the presence of an object, such as a thumb. A presence detect signal may be generated by the additional sensor and auto calibration logic then may automatically remove bias from the control stick in real time when the presence detect signal indicates the control stick is not under the influence of a force external to the controller, and therefore at its neutral mechanical position. In further embodiments, embedded sensors are arrayed across an exterior surface of a control stick as a secondary control stick-based positional input device. In such embodiments, tactile or proximity sensor technology may be applied to either improve precision of first positional information generated by the control stick or to control a coordinate space separate from that controlled by first position information provided by the control stick.

  • Patent number: 8337306
Abstract: A method for controlling a view of a scene is provided. The method initiates with detecting an initial location of a control object. An initial view of the scene is displayed on a virtual window, the initial view defined by a view-frustum based on a projection of the initial location of the control object through outer edges of the virtual window. Movement of the control object to a new location is detected. An updated view of the scene is displayed on the virtual window, the updated view defined by an updated view-frustum based on a projection of the new location of the control object through the outer edges of the virtual window.

  • Publication number: 20120293528
Abstract: A display apparatus having a surface that displays image data. A processing device processes and provides image data to the display. A camera device is associated with the display and the processing device. The camera device dynamically detects a user's head position relative to the surface of the display and determines the incident light surrounding the display. The detected head position and the incident light are then processed by the processing device for rendering the image data on the display to resemble a representation of an actual paper medium.

  • Publication number: 20120257035
Abstract: User interface technology that provides feedback to the user based on the user's gaze and a secondary user input, such as a hand gesture, is provided. A camera-based tracking system may track the gaze direction of a user to detect which object displayed in the user interface is being viewed. The tracking system also recognizes hand or other body gestures to control the action or motion of that object, using, for example, a separate camera and/or sensor. The user interface is then updated based on the tracked gaze and gesture data to provide the feedback.

  • Publication number: 20120086801
Abstract: Methods, devices, and systems are presented for determining a distance to an object using a color camera and special markers mounted on the object that refract or reflect different colors depending on the angle at which they are viewed. Different colors can be refracted or reflected using lenticular lenses or other technologies. The color received by the camera reveals the orientation of the markers. The orientation information can be combined with the perceived angular distance between the markers and the known distance between the markers to determine the actual distance to the object.

  • Patent number: 7883415
Abstract: A method for processing interactive user control with a scene of a video clip is provided. The method initiates with identifying a head of a user that is to interact with the scene of the video clip. Then, the identified head of the user is tracked during display of the video clip, where the tracking enables detection of a change in position of the head of the user. Next, a view-frustum is adjusted in accordance with the change in position of the head of the user. A computer readable media, a computing device and a system for enabling interactive user control for defining a visible volume being displayed are also included.
