Publication number: 20240116187Abstract: A system for performing surface maintenance based on one or more detected environmental factors for a surface monitored for maintenance. The system includes a surface monitoring assembly that monitors a surface for one or more environmental factors, such as a traffic pattern in a cleaning application, and the assembly may utilize one or more video cameras focused on a monitored surface along with video analytics software to process captured video to identify an environmental factor, such as heavy traffic, a spill, or the like. When an environmental factor is detected, the assembly passes this data to a maintenance control routine that processes the data to determine whether to vary the operations of an automated robot maintenance system provided in the system. The data can be used to define or modify a location, a time, and/or a parameter of a maintenance task or function (e.g., vacuuming versus wet mopping).Type: ApplicationFiled: October 11, 2022Publication date: April 11, 2024Inventor: Eric J. Moy

Patent number: 10563969Abstract: A method and apparatus for correcting errors in a bearing cartridge used in a portable articulated arm coordinate measurement machine (AACMM) is provided. The method includes providing a cartridge having a first bearing and a second bearing arranged in a fixed relationship to define an axis, the cartridge further including an angle measurement device configured to measure a rotation of a portion of the cartridge about the axis. A plurality of angles is measured with the angle measurement device. A first plurality of displacements is determined at a first position along the axis, each of the first plurality of displacements being associated with one of the plurality of angles. Compensation values are determined based at least in part on the plurality of angles and the first plurality of displacements.Type: GrantFiled: July 5, 2017Date of Patent: February 18, 2020Assignee: FARO TECHNOLOGIES, INC.Inventors: Robert E. Bridges, Raymond Sullivan, Eric J. Moy, Michael J. Hale

Patent number: 9714072Abstract: Dampers for mounting on a dock to control landing a boat. The dampers may be used individually or in damper systems made up of a plurality of dampers. Each damper has a flexible body with one or more sidewalls defining an inner chambers, and orifices are provided in one of the sidewalls to allow the chamber to be filled with water when the damper is in an at-rest state. When the boat approaches the dock and contacts the damper or the outer set of dampers in a damper assembly/system, the collision or impact force applied by the boat against the outer surfaces of the damper(s) causes the damper body to be compressed, which causes the sidewalls of the chamber to collapse so as to expel water out of the inner chamber via the orifices so as to reduce the speed of the boat at a desired rate of deceleration.Type: GrantFiled: December 28, 2015Date of Patent: July 25, 2017Assignee: Disney Enterprises, Inc.Inventors: Brooke M. Swift, Eric J. Moy, Dennis M. Lind, J. Douglas Smith, Casey L. McKibben

Patent number: 9423282Abstract: A system and method for determining the angular position of a bearing assembly and compensating measurements for bearing runout error in metrology devices, such as an articulated arm coordinate measurement device and a laser tracker, is provided. The system and method includes measuring the bearing runout error and defining a waveform from encoder readings for a first set of rotations. In one embodiment, a transfer function is created based on an analysis of the bearing runout error, such as with a Fourier analysis for example. In another embodiment the bearing runout error is mapped to an absolute angular position. During operation, the angular position of the bearing assembly is determined by comparing a waveform to the waveform from the first set of rotations. With the angular position determined, the bearing runout error may be used to compensate the measurements of the metrology device.Type: GrantFiled: June 3, 2015Date of Patent: August 23, 2016Assignee: FARO TECHNOLOGIES, INC.Inventor: Eric J.
