    Abstract: A disposable hypodermic syringe having a barrel with an adapter on one end for attachment of a needle, and a piston and plunger reciprocable in the barrel. The plunger has a longitudinally extending hollow bore therein and is removable from the barrel and lockable on the adapter in enclosing relationship to the needle to serve as a needle guard. In one form of the invention, the piston and plunger are automatically separable upon use to prevent reuse of the syringe.
