  • Patent number: 6862414
Abstract: Using a system of computer modules operatively associated with a document processing machine, banding defect analysis is accomplished by analyzing specific test patterns via image processing. The banding defects are characterized in terms of quantitative parameters based on an analysis of the banding defect. Key features are extracted from the banding defect parameters. The key features are analyzed in a diagnostic engine, to determine the possible source of the defect. The identified source is correlated to a recommended repair service procedure. The diagnostic process may be augmented by also including machine data in the analysis.

  • Patent number: 6782389
Abstract: A file system (i) permits storage capacity to be added easily, (ii) can be expanded beyond a given unit, (iii) is easy to administer and manage, (iv) permits data sharing, and (v) is able to perform effectively with very large storage capacity and client loads. State information from a newly added unit is communicated (e.g., automatically and transparently) to central administration and management operations. Configuration and control information from such operations is communicated (e.g., automatically) back down to the newly added units, as well as existing units. In this way, a file system can span both local storage devices (like disk drives) and networked computational devices transparently to clients. Such state and configuration and control information can include globally managed segments as the building blocks of the file system, and a fixed mapping of globally unique file identifiers (e.g., Inode numbers) and/or ranges thereof, to such segments.

  • Patent number: 6777753
Abstract: A CMOS or NMOS device has one or more n-channel FETs disposed on a substrate, the device being resistant to total dose radiation failures, the device further including a negative voltage source, for applying a steady negative back bias to the substrate of the n-channel FETs to mitigate leakage currents in the device, thereby mitigating total dose radiation effects. A method for operating a CMOS or NMOS device to resist total dose radiation failures, the device having one or more n-channel FETs disposed on a substrate, has the steps: (a) disposing the CMOS or NMOS device in a radiation environment, the radiation environment delivering a dose on the order of tens or hundreds of krad (Si) over the period of use of the CMOS device; and (b) applying a negative back bias to the substrate of the NMOS FETs, at a voltage for mitigating leakage currents about the n-channel FETs.

  • Patent number: 6744531
Abstract: An apparatus and method that provide consistent output across a plurality of different hard copy output devices which may be included in a system comprising an image data source and a hard copy output device. The image data source supplies image data to a printable image data adjusting apparatus. The image data supplied may be in a device-dependent color space or a device-independent color space. If the image data is in a device-dependent color space, the printable image data adjusting apparatus first converts the image data into device-independent image data and stores it in memory as target image data. If the image data is already device-independent image data, the image data are simply stored in the memory of the printable image data adjusting apparatus as target image data. The printable image data adjusting apparatus then uses the target image data to generate printable image data. The hard copy output device uses the printable image data to generate a hard copy image.

  • Patent number: 6625306
Abstract: A mapping system for converting an input signal value to an output value wherein certain outputs are predetermined to be critical. An engine for converting input values to output values is associated with an input value transforming system wherein certain input values corresponding to the critical output values are transformed prior to input to the engine for adjusting the input value so that the engine generates a particularly desired output. The transforming comprises selecting a set of basis functions for effecting a warping of input values near the input value corresponding to the critical output value. The basis functions determine the extent and gradient of input value adjustment for nearby values to the critical value. The basis functions are included within an objective function defining the purpose of the system and the functions are solved to generate the desired adjusted input value.

  • Patent number: 6519552
Abstract: Through a combination of a hybrid diagnostic scheme based on qualitative and quantitative technologies, at least component level status information can be obtained about a machine, such as an electronic device. In particular, qualitative model based diagnostic technologies is used in conjunction with quantitative analysis techniques and signature analysis to achieve accurate and reliable diagnosis of components and systems down to the individual component level, for example, down to the consumer replaceable unit level. Thus, the hybrid diagnostic methodology exploits the diagnostic information content in already available system signals via intelligent processing and allows for diagnosis with minimal sensor requirements. Furthermore, the diagnostic methodology allows for a self-diagnosing machine having diagnostic intelligence which in turn can reduce service time, service costs, increased machine up time and improve customer satisfaction.

  • Patent number: 6450887
Abstract: A gaming system is described which enables parimutuel wagering with instant payoffs on actual past events. The system, in one embodiment, includes a plurality of wager terminals coupled to a game server. The wagering terminals are multi-function terminals which enable a patron to enter a wager, provide high quality video/audio play-back, and can issue payments for winners. The game server is a computer system configured to manage the entire game system. For example, the server maintains databases, controls and accounts for the transactions with the wagering terminals, controls the flow of data from the video server to the terminals, collates pools from all sources and computes winnings, and provides detailed statistics for the disbursement of funds.

  • Patent number: 6426131
Abstract: Disclosed is a pupil aperture, and method for making the pupil aperture for use in a photolithography scanner system. The pupil aperture includes a plate having a set of pole apertures that are radially offset from a reference center point of the plate. The plate further includes a horizontal reference line that intersects the reference center point. The horizontal reference line is used to define a target angle that is between about 15 degrees and about 35 degrees from the horizontal reference line. The target angle defines an off-axis location for each of the set of pole apertures. In a specific aspect of this invention, a set ranging between 3 to 9 pole apertures can be defined in the plate, and their offset from the center point can be selected to be between about 0.3 inches and about 0.9 inches.

  • Publication number: 20020093684
Abstract: A printing system accurately prints proprietary marks and selected colors. A dictionary of recognizable patterns and defined colors corresponding to the proprietary marks and selected colors is linked to a user interface wherein a user may designate a location within a document and at least one of the proprietary marks with defined colors from an accessible menu. A processor associates the defined colors with the image at the specified location and generates a printer signal representative thereof. Alternatively, the processor includes a pattern recognizer for identifying recognizable patterns within a document. The patterns have a likeness to defined patterns within a pattern dictionary and can be converted to the defined patterns for display or imaging.
