  • Publication number: 20040021387
Abstract: A homopolar generator includes a plurality of rotor elements arranged adjacent to one another on a single circumference of a circle around an axis of rotation for generating an electric current in at least one of the plurality of rotor elements when the plurality of rotor elements is rotated about the axis of rotation in a magnetic field that extends radially through the plurality of rotor elements relative to the axis of rotation. A first brush ring encircles the axis of rotation and is coupled to the at least one of the plurality of rotor elements. A second brush ring encircles the axis of rotation and is coupled to the at least one of the plurality of rotor elements wherein the second brush ring maintains continuous electrical contact with the first brush ring through the at least one of the plurality of rotor elements for all angles of rotation of the at least one of the plurality of rotor elements about the axis of rotation.

  • Patent number: 6515391
Abstract: An electricity generator is disclosed having electrically conductive, counter-rotating collectors arranged coaxially with a magnetic field extending radially from an axis of rotation. The collectors intersect the radial magnetic field perpendicularly and are electrically connected to each other to conduct current flow in opposite directions to balance the interaction between current flow in the collectors and the magnetic field.

  • Patent number: 6466184
Abstract: A three dimensional display provides a true 3-D display of an image defined by luminous voxels within a virtually transparent volume. The voxels may be generated by illuminating a virtually transparent fluorescent gas or dye with beams of excitation energy that cause the gas or dye to emit light at voxels where the energy beams intersect. The voxels may be refreshed in a manner to create either fixed or animated images.

  • Patent number: 6177913
Abstract: A volumetric display comprises complementary segments made of a transparent material. An optical scattering layer is formed on a surface between adjoining segments. The segments are joined to form a display volume that may be rotated to cause the scattering layer to sweep out the entire display volume each revolution. A scanning beam may be used to illuminate points on the scattering layer at selected rotation angles to create a three-dimensional image.

  • Patent number: 5995445
Abstract: A system locates the elements of a randomly dispersed, untethered, array of sonobuoys from which are suspended active, transmitting, transducer elets and passive, receiving, transducer elements. The system comprises a data conditioning unit which receives high-frequency element-locating signals from a radio receiver, which may be located on an aircraft, and processes them so that they are quantized at its output. An acoustic delay processor, whose input is connected to the output of the data conditioning unit, correlates a reference signal R received from an active element suspended from the sonobuoy with a corresponding received signal from another element, active or passive, suspended from another sonobuoy.A position tracker, whose input is connnected to the output of the acoustic delay processor, calculates the relative position of each element of the random array from the propagation delays measured by the acoustic delay processor.

  • Patent number: 5929572
Abstract: A solid state 3-D display comprises an array of voxels made of an electroinescent material arranged in a matrix of a transparent material. Transparent electrodes are formed in the matrix to form electrical connections to each voxel. The transparent electrodes are connected to voltage sources outside the display volume for controlling the optical output of each voxel to produce a three-dimensional image inside the display volume.
