  • Patent number: 10880165
Abstract: Techniques are described for managing communications between multiple computing nodes, such as for computing nodes that are part of managed virtual computer networks provided on behalf of users or other entities. In some situations, one or more of the computing nodes of a managed virtual computer network is configured to perform actions to extend capabilities of the managed virtual computer network to other computing nodes that are not part of the managed virtual computer network, such as by forwarding communications between computing nodes of the managed virtual computer network and the other external computing nodes so as to enable the other external computing nodes to participate in the managed virtual computer network. In some situations, the computing nodes may include virtual machine nodes hosted on one or more physical computing machines or systems, such as by or on behalf of one or more users.

  • Patent number: 10868861
Abstract: A request to copy at least a portion of a first network that includes a first set of devices is received, the request including one or more filtering criteria, with at least one of the one or more filtering criteria specifying a tag assigned to a device of the first set of devices. At least the portion of the first network is copied by causing the system to create, according to the one or more filtering criteria, a second network by causing a second set of devices to be configured to be duplicative of devices of the first set of devices that are assigned the tag specified by the filtering criteria.

  • Patent number: 10868715
Abstract: Techniques are described for providing users with access to computer networks, such as to enable users to create computer networks that are provided by a remote configurable network service for use by the users. Such provided computer networks may be configured to be private computer networks accessible only by the users who create them, and may each be created and configured by a client of the configurable network service to be an extension to an existing computer network of the client, such as a private computer network extension to an existing private computer network of the client. In addition, access to remote resource services may be configured and provided from such computer networks in various manners, such as to include a local access mechanism as part of a provided computer network that is configured to forward communications sent to the access mechanism to a particular remote resource service.

  • Patent number: 10846135
Abstract: A customer having a deployment in a resource provider environment can request one or more changes to the deployment using one or more application programming interface (API) requests. Along with the one or more changes, the customer can specify one or more metrics or behaviors, or a function thereof, to be monitored for the deployment for at least a period of time after the change is implemented. The customer can also specify acceptable or unacceptable values or ranges for the metrics. If the value of a specified metric is determined during the monitoring to have an unacceptable value, the change can be automatically rolled back or undone. The roll back in some embodiments takes the form of a change in state to yet another state that will cause the deployment to operate similar to a state before the change was implemented.

  • Publication number: 20200356680
Abstract: Logical data containers of a data storage system are associated with policies that require data transformation of data to be stored in the logical data containers. When a data object is received to be stored in a logical data container, the data object is transformed in accordance with a policy on the logical data container. Transformation of the data object may include encryption. The logical data container may also be associated with a cryptographic key used to perform a required transformation.

  • Publication number: 20200358651
Abstract: Techniques are described for providing users with access to computer networks, such as to enable users to interact with a remote configurable network service in order to create and configure computer networks that are provided by the configurable network service for use by the users. Computer networks provided by the configurable network service may be configured to be private computer networks that are accessible only by the users who create them, and may each be created and configured by a client of the configurable network service to be an extension to an existing computer network of the client, such as a private computer network extension to an existing private computer network of the client. If so, secure private access between an existing computer network and new computer network extension that is being provided may be enabled using one or more VPN connections or other private access mechanisms.

  • Patent number: 10798120
Abstract: An automated scanning service can be configured to dynamically determine potential firewall misconfigurations in a shared resource environment. The scanning service can interrogate one or more application programming interfaces (APIs) to determine the state of the relevant firewall ports. For each firewall port in a permitted state, a test or trace can be run to determine whether the corresponding host port is open. Similarly, information can be obtained indicating which host ports for the allocation are open, and a determination can be made as to whether the corresponding firewall ports are permitted. Once the determinations are made, any mismatch in port state can be reported as a potential misconfiguration.

  • Publication number: 20200310855
Abstract: At a virtualization host, an isolated run-time environment is established within a compute instance. The configuration of the isolated run-time environment is analyzed by a security manager of the hypervisor of the host. After the analysis, computations are performed at the isolated run-time environment.

  • Publication number: 20200296108
Abstract: A delegation request is submitted to a session-based authentication service, fulfillment of which involves granting an entity an access privilege to a computing resource. A session key is received from the session-based authentication service. The session key having been generated based at least in part on a restriction and a secret credential shared with the session-based authentication service and usable at least in part to prove possession of the access privilege to the computing resource. • Patent number: 10771255
Abstract: Data storage operation commands are digitally signed to enhance data security in a distributed system. A data storage client and a data storage node may share access to a cryptographic key. The data storage client uses the cryptographic key to digitally sign commands transmitted to the data storage node. The data storage node uses its copy of the cryptographic key to verify a digital signature of a command before fulfilling the command. The command may include a log of database transactions to process.

  • Publication number: 20200266976
Abstract: A system uses information submitted in connection with a request to determine if and how to process the request. The information may be electronically signed by a requestor using a key such that the system processing the request can verify that the requestor has the key and that the information is authentic. The information may include information that identifies a holder of a key needed for processing the request, where the holder of the key can be the system or another, possibly third party, system.

  • Patent number: 10749936
Abstract: Techniques are described for managing communications between computing nodes of a computer network. In some situations, multiple computing nodes of a provided computer network may share a single virtual network address, and communications sent to that single virtual network address by other computing nodes may be managed in various manners. For example, the multiple computing nodes sharing the single virtual network address may be part of a pool of alternative destinations associated with the single virtual network address, and particular computing nodes from the pool may be selected to receive particular communications sent to the single virtual network address. Pools of multiple related computing nodes may also be identified and monitored in various manners. In some situations, the computing nodes may include virtual machine nodes hosted on one or more physical computing machines or systems, such as by or on behalf of one or more users.

  • Publication number: 20200259707
Abstract: Techniques are described for providing logical networking functionality for managed computer networks, such as for virtual computer networks provided on behalf of users or other entities. In some situations, a user may configure or otherwise specify a network topology for a virtual computer network, such as a logical network topology that separates multiple computing nodes of the virtual computer network into multiple logical sub-networks and/or that specifies one or more logical networking devices for the virtual computer network. After a network topology is specified for a virtual computer network, logical networking functionality corresponding to the network topology may be provided in various manners, such as without physically implementing the network topology for the virtual computer network. In some situations, the computing nodes may include virtual machine nodes hosted on one or more physical computing machines or systems, such as by or on behalf of one or more users.

  • Patent number: 10740466
Abstract: Interfaces of a compute node on a printed circuit board can be secured by obfuscating the information communicated over the interfaces. Data to be communicated between the compute node and a device on the printed circuit board using an interface can be encrypted, and an address corresponding to the data to be communicated can be scrambled. In addition, the compute node can be the root of trust which can provide secure boot of different components using an on-chip mechanism, and without relying on external devices.
