  • Patent number: 10735126
Abstract: A reconfigurable optical add/drop multiplexer (ROADM) complex in an optical network may include one or more core ROADM devices, each including multiple input/output port pairs configured for respective wavelengths or wavelength bands to be coupled to a fiber distribution panel (FDP) over fiber. The FDP may include multiple FDP connectors to receive optical signals from the core ROADM device(s) and may extract and route optical signals having a single wavelength to respective transponder connectors of the FDP for coupling to a transponder. Multiple expansion options may be enabled at the FDP. For example, according to one option, a single expansion connector may be enabled for coupling to an expansion device to provide additional drop port capacity. In another example, multiple expansion connectors may be enabled for coupling to respective expansion devices.

  • Publication number: 20180367234
Abstract: Methods and systems for implementing a route and collect ROADM include a route stage incorporating a 1×2 wavelength selective element to split pass through wavelengths and dropped wavelengths from and input WDM signal. Additional optical functionality of the route and collect ROADM may be implemented using passive optical elements, such as a collect stage comprising an optical coupler to combine add wavelengths with the pass through wavelengths.

  • Publication number: 20050129403
Abstract: A method for communicating optical traffic at a node includes receiving optical traffic on a network and demultiplexing the optical traffic into component signals of the optical traffic. The method includes splitting at least one of the component signals into a drop signal and a continue signal and receiving and recovering the drop signal. The method also includes selecting between an add signal and the continue signal for communication on the network and multiplexing the selected signal with other signals for communication on the network.
