Patent number: 8388659Abstract: A screw for use in spinal surgery provided with a screw shaft and a screw head and at least one extension tab extending proximally from the screw head, the extension tab being defined relative to the screw head by a stress concentration feature. At a proximal end of the extension tab, the extension tab may be narrower in a circumferential direction than the extension tab at a distal portion thereof. A particular shape of stress concentration may be provided.Type: GrantFiled: October 19, 2009Date of Patent: March 5, 2013Assignee: Theken Spine, LLCInventors: Eric A. Lab, Mukund Gundanna

Patent number: 8292958Abstract: Embodiments are disclosed which provide a spinal cage with a wall extending in a longitudinal direction defining an interior space. There is also provided a spin-plate that may be assembled into the spinal cage. The spin-plate may comprise a blade and a disc on a common shaft, and may be rotatable from an undeployed position to a deployed position. In some embodiments, the spin-plate may be assembled into the spinal cage by a translational motion perpendicular to a rotational axis of the spin-plate. The spin-plate may be captured in the spinal cage for certain angular positions. In some embodiments, there may be a snap-in feature when the spin-plate is assembled into the spinal cage, and there may be a rotational feature such that increased torque is required to advance beyond certain points.Type: GrantFiled: February 10, 2009Date of Patent: October 23, 2012Assignee: Theken Spine, LLCInventors: James Bruffey, Eric A. Lab, Bret Everette Hartzell, Adam C. Sclafani

Patent number: 8197517Abstract: Various embodiments are provided with a polyaxial spinal screw assembly that comprise a threaded screw having a bulbous or curvate head, and a receiver for receiving the head of the screw, and a slotted collet between the receiver and the screw head. The collet may, in an un-locked condition, bear against the head of the screw to frictionally retain the screw's angular position. The collet may have a lip that may engage with a corresponding internal feature of the receiver. The screw head may be able to be inserted into the receiver through the bottom of the receiver. The screw may be cannulated and also may be fenestrated. Embodiments may also include a bone screw having fenestration holes that include a component in the rotational direction, such as backward-facing with respect to the forward-rotational direction of the screw.Type: GrantFiled: May 8, 2008Date of Patent: June 12, 2012Assignee: Theken Spine, LLCInventors: Eric A. Lab, Peter A. Materna

Publication number: 20070008399Abstract: A hard copy recording device for transferring images to media, the hard copy recording device including an engine, a controller, a first non-volatile memory, and a second non-volatile memory. The engine transfers images to the media in response to control signals. The controller provides the control signals to the engine based upon image data and a first non-volatile memory stores recording device system data accessible by processes executing at the controller. The second non-volatile memory stores a copy of selected portions of the recording device system data, the second non-volatile memory being detachably coupled to the hard copy recording device and capable of being coupled to a second hard copy recording device for downloading the selected portions of the recording device system data to the second hard copy recording device.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 14, 2006Publication date: January 11, 2007Applicant: CODONICS, INC.Inventors: Peter Botten, Michael Kolberg, Lawrence Srnka, Christopher Tainer, Donald Rahe, Joseph Miller, Peter Adam, Robert Colbrunn, Vladimir Dzodzo, Kevin Roach, Owen Patton, Eric Lab, Neal Somos, James Bias

Patent number: 7116343Abstract: A printer capable of transferring images to different types of media is disclosed. Media sheets of different sizes and types may be dispensed through a single input path to a print station including a printhead and a platen. The printhead is adapted for transferring images to media using either a direct thermal or dye diffusion process. A capstan roller, platen roller, picker assemblies and kicker assemblies are driven by a single motor, allowing for substantial cost and space savings. Other features are directed to improving the quality of images using the direct thermal and dye diffusion processes.Type: GrantFiled: November 29, 2004Date of Patent: October 3, 2006Assignee: Codonics, Inc.Inventors: Peter Botten, Michael Kolberg, Lawrence Srnka, Christopher Tainer, Donald Rahe, Joseph Miller, Peter Adam, Robert Colbrunn, Vladimir Dzodzo, Kevin Roach, Owen Patton, Eric Lab, Neal Somos, James Bias
