  • Patent number: 9407380
Abstract: A network node communicates with a radio access node that communicates application traffic on behalf of machine-to-machine (M2M) devices via a satellite link. The network node comprises a database and a control unit. The database stores a plurality of recovery modes. Each recovery mode indicates one or more types of application traffic that M2M devices are or are not allowed to transmit when operating according to that recovery mode. The control unit detects a loss of communication across, or congestion on, the satellite link, selects one of the recovery modes, and requests the radio access node to broadcast the selected recovery mode over a 3GPP-based broadcast channel in order to instruct the M2M devices to transmit only application traffic allowed in accordance with the selected recovery mode.

  • Patent number: 8897709
Abstract: Systems and methods according to the exemplary embodiments enable non-cognitive radio devices to operate as if they were cognitive radio devices. A pilot radio device analyzes a local radio environment and broadcasts a spectrum map message which indicates, for example, available radio resources in the local radio environment. A non-cognitive radio device receives the spectrum map message and uses the information in the spectrum map message to select a radio resource for its own transmissions and/or receptions.

  • Patent number: 8458779
Abstract: A system, method, and client registration and verification device for handling personal identification information. The client device collects from an individual, a sufficient amount of biometric information to uniquely identify the individual, as well as historical mobility information providing a history of locations where the individual has lived. A caching manager stores the collected biometric information at a selected cache node in a hierarchical database having a plurality of cache nodes at multiple levels of the database. The caching manager selects the cache node based on the historical mobility information collected from the individual. The client device sends subsequent requests to verify the identity of the individual to a local cache node where newly input biometric information is compared with the cached information.

  • Publication number: 20120314127
Abstract: A method of controlling video from/to a User Equipment node (UE) through a network includes receiving a video mode request for transporting video from/to the UE through the network. Video requirements associated with the video mode request are identified. Network resources that need to be provisioned responsive to the identified video requirements are identified. The availability of network resources is determined An instruction is communicated to a policy charging and rules function (PCRF) node to provision network resources to transport video from/to the UE through the network responsive to the availability of network resources and the identified network resources that need to be provisioned. Related systems, network nodes, and UEs are disclosed.

  • Patent number: 8010038
Abstract: A method and system of disabling a remote improvised explosive device (IED) that is triggered by a cell phone. A portable wideband network system, installed in a vehicle, is used to determine operator frequency or frequencies active on a route along which the vehicle will travel. The vehicle includes a wideband transmitter for raising a radio frequency noise floor across all of the active cellular frequencies in a limited area surrounding the portable wideband network system during passage along the route. A notch filter is used by the system for filtering a particular frequency from the noise floor. The power level of the portable wideband network system is increased so that the strongest signal at the particular frequency in the limited area is provided by the portable system's base station. All mobile terminals in the limited area around the vehicle are connected to the portable system and the portable system prevents call completion of any of the connected mobile terminals.

  • Publication number: 20020075846
Abstract: Apparatus, methods and systems for routing information from a packet-switched network to a mobile device communicating with a wireless telecommunications network, wherein a call request for a mobile device is received from the packet-switched network at a first node of the wireless telecommunications network; a determination is made of the serving node of the wireless telecommunications network in communication with the mobile device and whether the serving node is coupled to the packet-switched network; and the call request is redirected to the serving node in response to an affirmative indication that the serving node is coupled to the packet-switched network. Alternatively, in response to a negative indication that the serving node is coupled to the packet-switched network, the call request is routed from the first node to the serving node through a circuit-switched network coupled intermediate to the first node and the serving node.

  • Patent number: 6327267
Abstract: A datagram is received from a packet-switched network at a first network node; the first network node may be a node of the packet-switched network or a node of a signaling network associated with a Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN). The datagram includes a destination address of a destination node of the signaling network; the destination address has an address format associated with the packet-switched network, such as that defined by the Internet Protocol. A message is constructed for transmission from the first network node to a node of the signaling network; the message includes an address field containing the destination address and a translation type field containing an indicator that the destination address has an address format associated with the packet-switched network.

  • Patent number: 6157640
Abstract: Whenever a subscriber associated with a plurality of subscriber features receives or originates a call, an application module associated with the serving local exchange links into the established call. The application module thereinafter intercepts all incoming calls towards that subscriber and transmits control data over the existing call connection to the subscriber terminal informing it of the new incoming call. The control data are transmitted over the existing call connection using out-of-band voice frequencies or during silent portions of the speech connection. Over the same existing call connection, the application module receives an instruction from the subscriber terminal for providing a particular terminating call treatment for this incoming call. The application module then provides the instructed terminating call treatment as instructed by the subscriber.

  • Patent number: 6018654
Abstract: A method and apparatus for downloading tone data from a public land mobile network to a mobile telephone unit is disclosed. A mobile telephone unit includes means enabling the user to request downloading of tone data to the mobile telephone unit from a public land mobile network via a connection-less communications link such as the USSD or SMS. The downloaded tone data is uniquely associated with a selected telephone number within the mobile telephone unit such that a call to the mobile unit involving the telephone number initiates audio play back of the tone data.

  • Patent number: 5815808
Abstract: A screening list for a specific location within a mobile telecommunications system is assigned to a mobile subscriber. If the mobile subscriber is served by a Mobile Switching Center of that location, all originating and terminating calls are screened against the allowed directory numbers that have been stored in the screening list. If there is a match, telecommunications service is selectively provided. Otherwise, access is denied. A single mobile station can have separate screening lists for different locations within a mobile telecommunications system. Accordingly, a different screening list can be assigned to a Local Access and Transport Area, Network Area, Location Area and Cell Area within a mobile telecommunications system.
