Abstract: A new method of customized retrieval and presentation of information from a relational database is disclosed. The customization is achieved by modifying a first application for retrieval and presentation of information from a database in accordance with input provided by the user, at the time when the execution of the first application is requested by the user. The user input is solicited and gathered by a second application associated with the first application. After the user input is completed, the second application generates a script which modifies the first application. The modified first application is then executed and the requested information is retrieved and presented to the user in the form customized by the user input.

Abstract: A method, a system and a storage medium for preparing multilingual reports at client sites. The client sites are connected to a server and a data source. Each of the client sites may use a different locale. A product locale is selected at the client site for defining a user interface appearance. After a report specification is generated, a content locale is selected at the client site, which defines an appearance and a format of a report. A metadata model with run-time parameters is then constructed. The run-time parameters include mapping rules for the content locale. The run-time parameters are updated based on the content locale. A query is built using the report specification and the metadata model. Data appropriate to the individual content locale is then extracted from the same data source using the query.

Abstract: A report specification for defining a report and a system and method of producing a report output from a report definition are provided. The report specification comprises a data selection specification for defining one or more sets of data that are to be reported against and a layout specification for defining how the data is to be structured and rendered. The layout specification including elements that are typically defined in a query. The system comprises a report engine for decomposing a report definition into a layout definition and a query set component, a query engine for processing a query results definition of the query set to produce query results to be rendered, and a rendering engine for creating the final report by using the query results and the layout definition.

Abstract: The invention enhances business intelligence systems by allowing both report authors and consumers (users of reports) operating in their individual choice of interface language to have full access to content (data) in that language, or in any one of a number of languages. This functionality is provided by the inclusion of at least two locales. The invention provides for defining locale mappings, mapping a locale from an unsupported locale to supported locale, defaulting to a valid locale for users with incomplete or invalid locale specifications, and for specifying object names, descriptions, and tips in multiple languages.

The conditional layout system comprises an element receiving unit for receiving a variable element referenced in a report element, a condition processing unit for calculating a condition value based upon an expression in the variable element, and an element rendering unit for conditionally rendering and formatting report elements based upon the condition value.

Abstract: A report layout model and method that provide layout content elements for structuring data from a query, and that further include layout rendering elements for rendering that query data. In an embodiment of the present invention, style elements are further provided in accordance with the Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) specification to improve rendering control.
