  • Patent number: 8203939
Abstract: A method and apparatus for controlling a network load in a packet network are disclosed. For example, the method receives a request from a User Agent Client (UAC), and sends the request to a core proxy server. The method receives a request from a User Agent Client (UAC) and sends the request to a core proxy server. The method increments a counter, if the request is positively acknowledged by the core proxy server. The method decrements a value for a window size parameter by a first predetermined value, and resets the counter, if the request is not positively acknowledged by the core proxy server, and the method decrements a number of outstanding requests if the request is positively acknowledged or negatively acknowledged.

  • Publication number: 20120095975
Abstract: Methods and systems to facilitate a search of an information resource is disclosed. In various embodiments, a distribution of a plurality of data items across a plurality of attribute value ranges corresponding to an attribute is identified. The attribute may be shared by at least two of the plurality of data items. Based on a determining that the distribution of the plurality of data items across the plurality of attribute value ranges includes at least two peaks, the distribution of the plurality of data items across the plurality of attribute value ranges corresponding to the attribute is communicated.

  • Patent number: 8090698
Abstract: A method and system facilitate a search of an information resource. The system identifies data items within the information resource and determines a respective attribute value from each data item. The system analyzes the attribute values to identify a distribution of the data items based on a predetermined range of attribute values that are associated with the first attribute and determines if the identified distribution of data items facilitates the search of the information resource.

  • Publication number: 20110188643
Abstract: A method and apparatus for handling an overload condition in a communication network are disclosed. For example, the method calculates a call target rate by at least one core signaling network element for at least one edge signaling network element. The method then sends the call target rate by the at least one core signaling network element to the at least one edge signaling network element, when a total queueing delay of the at least one core signaling network element exceeds a predefined high threshold in a measurement interval, wherein the call target rate is used by the at least one edge signaling network element in an overload control that throttles signaling traffic.

  • Publication number: 20110188642
Abstract: A method and apparatus for handling an overload condition in a communication network are disclosed. For example, the method calculates a retry-after-timer parameter by at least one core signaling network element for at least one edge signaling network element. The method then sends the retry-after-timer parameter by the at least one core signaling network element to the at least one edge signaling network element, when a total queueing delay of the at least one core signaling network element exceeds a predefined high threshold in a measurement interval, wherein the retry-after-timer parameter is used by the at least one edge signaling network element in an overload control that throttles signaling traffic.

  • Publication number: 20110149949
Abstract: A method, computer readable medium and apparatus for clearing hang calls in a communication network are disclosed. For example, the method detects a failure of an adjacent call stateful network element in a signaling path, identifies one or more calls that are affected by the failure of the adjacent call stateful network element, tests a media path of the one or more calls for activity and clears the one or more calls that are affected by the failure of the adjacent call stateful network element if the media path of the one or more calls is inactive.

  • Patent number: 7826390
Abstract: A method and apparatus for providing a distributed subscriber load distribution in networks are disclosed. For example, the method receives capacity data from a plurality of devices, and measures a peak period volume for each of a plurality of registered user equipment that is registered with one of the plurality of devices. The method determines whether a peak period volume of the one device reaches an on-set threshold of the one device, and selects one or more of the plurality of registered user equipment if the on-set threshold of the one device is reached, where a sum of the peak period volumes of the selected one or more plurality of registered user equipment is larger than or equal to a volume of traffic that is in excess of the on-set threshold, or in excess of an off-set threshold of the one device. The method sends a request for the selected one or more plurality of registered user equipment to be re-registered in accordance with the capacity data received from the plurality of devices.

  • Publication number: 20100109847
Abstract: The performance of a radio frequency identification (RFID) system is improved by a protocol that eliminates collisions between signals generated by a) RFID tags that the RFID reader has already identified as being in its interrogation zone and b) RFID tags that are newly arrived and thus that the reader has not yet identified. This is illustratively accomplished by the use of separate identification and access frames. It is during the identification frame that newly arrived tags become identified by the reader. Although there may be collisions during the identification frame, those collisions are only among newly arrived tags. The already-identified tags communicate with the reader during respective time slots of the access frame, so that they neither collide with each other nor with the newly arrived tags.

  • Publication number: 20090292584
Abstract: A system and method for context and community based customization for a user experience is disclosed. The apparatus in an example embodiment includes a user experience customizer to gather context information, automatically produce user experience customization selections based on the context information, collect user activity feedback from a community of users, and use the user activity feedback to adjust the user experience customizer to automatically produce user experience customization selections likely favored by a user based on a correlation of the user activity feedback with the context information.
