  • Patent number: 5925998
Abstract: A device which intervenes between an electric switch and a motor which it controls, such intervention reducing the number of times the motor is powered on by keeping the motor running. The device calculates the difference in the amount of energy used in starting compared with normal running. Then, it calculates how long the motor must be turned off, if turning it off is to be economical. If the motor is turned off for a period which is not economical, the motor control device will intervene and keep the motor running until it is no longer economical to keep it running. In applications where an industrial tool is being used so frequently that it is being stopped, then started again in short intervals, this device would keep the tool running constantly until a sufficient period since the last use has lapsed and the device is allowed to shut the motor off.
