Patent number: 7591715Abstract: A hand-held, manually-operated sanding tool including a base member, a clamping mechanism, and a tab. The clamping mechanism is pivotally mounted to the base member, in alignment with a contact surface thereof such that the clamping mechanism pivots between a closed position and an open position in which a gap is defined between the clamping mechanism and the contact surface. The tab extends at least partially between the contact surface and the clamping mechanism, and establishes a stop surface that positively positions an edge of a sheet of abrasive material relative to an end of the base member as part of a loading operation.Type: GrantFiled: August 11, 2005Date of Patent: September 22, 2009Assignee: 3M Innovative Properties CompanyInventors: Eric R. Publication number: 20090229766Abstract: An adhesive removal system useful for removing a stretch release adhesive from a component includes a first member that engages with a component and an adhesive removal member that moves the adhesive and component relative to each other in order to stretch the adhesive and release the adhesive from a bond surface of the component. In some embodiments, the adhesive removal member applies a substantially uniform pulling force across the adhesive. The adhesive removal member may be manually actuated by a user or with the aid of an automated device. In some embodiments, the adhesive removal system comprises a rotatable portion that moves the adhesive relative to the component. In other embodiments, the adhesive removal system includes features that enable the first member and a second member, which is mechanically coupled to at least a portion of the adhesive extending from the component, to move relative to each other.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 11, 2009Publication date: September 17, 2009Inventors: Jason L. Aveldson, Eric R. Cybulski, Jay A. Esch, Scott D. Gullicks, Robert A. Harkins, Erik J. Johnson, Steven G. Lucht, Audrey A. Sherman, Wendi J. Winkler

Publication number: 20090199868Abstract: A heated surface cleaning pad that can be attached to a bottom portion of a hand tool configured to be used to scrub a heated food preparation surface. According to an embodiment, the cleaning pad is configured to clean a hot griddle surface that has a number of parallel raised ridges. According to another embodiment, the cleaning pad includes a non-woven construction that is impregnated with abrasive particles and/or a liquid cleaner or a dissolvable solid cleaner. In addition, a method of cleaning a hot food preparation surface is provided. According to one embodiment, the method includes the steps of attaching a scrubbing pad to a cleaning tool, contacting the openings in the cleaning surface of the scrubbing pad with the raised ridges of a griddle surface, and scrubbing the griddle surface with the pad until the surface is clean. Moreover, a method of constructing a cleaning pad for cleaning a hot griddle surface is also provided.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 6, 2007Publication date: August 13, 2009Applicant: 3M INNOVATIVE PROPERTIES COMPANYInventors: Eric R.
