Abstract: In certain embodiments, a method for establishing a communication session includes receiving, from a first endpoint, a request to establish a communication session with a second endpoint. The first endpoint has an associated first security level and is operable to communicate via an IP network, the second endpoint has an associated second security level, and the first security level and the second security level are different. The method further includes determining, based on the first security level associated with the first endpoint and the second security level associated with the second endpoint, a communication session security level. The method further includes determining a communication session path for the requested communication session, the communication session path comprising a media processing module corresponding to the determined communication session security level.
