  • Patent number: 6642902
Abstract: A low loss, compact radio antenna and antenna loading method. For a monople antenna a tubular, conductive radiating element provided whose length is less than one-quarter the wavelength of the nominal frequency of the antenna. A tubular conductive series loading element disposed within the radiating element, the series loading element having a first end for connection to a radio and being electrically connected to the radiating element at a position spaced outwardly from the first end so as to provide inductance in series with the radiating element. An elongate conductive shunt matching element is disposed within the series loading element for electrically connecting the series loading element from a point therein to a mirror image thereof so as to provide shunt inductance that matches the impedance of the antenna to the impedance of a device connected thereto at the nominal frequency.

  • Patent number: 6411264
Abstract: A two-element driven array with improved tuning and matching. First and second elongate conductive elements are provided having respective feed point gaps disposed substantially at their centers, the second elongate element being substantially coplanar and parallel with the first elongate element and spaced a predetermined distance therefrom. A phasing transmission line is connected between the feed point gap of the first elongate element and the feed point gap of the second elongate element so as to reverse the polarity there between. A variable transmission line having a movable shorting member is connected at one end thereof to the second end of the phasing transmission line. The first end of the phasing transmission line is the feed point for the antenna. A combined balun and impedance matching network is providing for coupling the antenna to an unbalanced, coaxial feed line. The combined network includes a shorting stub to adjust the impedance match between the antenna and the feed line.

  • Patent number: 5659731
Abstract: In a system that accepts a given search entity from a user and utilizes a database to identify a possible matching entity from a large list of entries, a method is provided for evaluating the reliability of the matching entity. Preferably, the method is carried out with minimal human intervention. A user inputs a plurality of attributes to identify a given entity, the system identifies a possible matching entity, and assigns a numerical grade to reflect the match quality of each attribute. Thereafter, the method assigns a grade to each attribute score, assembles the grades into a key, uses the key to address a memory, and retrieves a confidence code or quality indicator from the memory. The confidence codes are based on empirical information and reflect the overall quality of the match for the particular entity.

  • Patent number: 5216922
Abstract: A slope monitoring device includes a cable anchored at one end to the sloped wall of an open pit mine, dump, or the like. The cable extends over an idler pulley at the top of the sloped wall and passes around a further pulley coupled to an optical shaft encoder which generates a digital signal corresponding to the angular position of the pulley. The cable is engaged by a clutch and is wound about a play-off reel, each secured to a weighted sleeve slidingly extending about a vertical post. The weighted sleeve maintains tension upon the cable, while the clutch allows additional cable to be played off of the reel when tension is increased due to movement of the wall. The shaft encoder information, along with the temperature, battery condition, and cable condition, are transmitted by radio to a remote location for processing.
