  • Publication number: 20170271800
Abstract: Contacts that may be highly corrosion resistant, may be readily manufactured, and may conserve precious materials. One example may provide contacts having a layer of a precious-metal alloy to improve corrosion resistance. The precious-metal-alloy layer may be plated with a hard, durable, wear and corrosion resistant plating stack for further corrosion resistance and wear improvement. The resources consumed by a contact may be reduced by forming a bulk or substrate region of the contact using a more readily available material, such as copper or a material that is primarily copper based.

  • Patent number: 9722450
Abstract: A first electronic device includes an inner inductive coil positioned at least partially around a shield core and a second electronic device includes an outer inductive coil positioned around an aperture. The first electronic device is operable to receive power from and/or transmit power to the second electronic device when a portion of the first electronic device is inserted into the aperture of the second electronic device, positioning the inner inductive coil within the aperture and within the outer inductive coil. When power is being transmitted between the first and second electronic devices, the shield core concentrates magnetic flux around the inner inductive coil and/or the outer inductive coil. In some implementations, an outer shield may be positioned at least partially around the outer inductive coil and may also concentrate magnetic flux around the inner inductive coil and/or the outer inductive coil.

  • Patent number: 9692186
Abstract: A high-speed electrical connector employs a plurality of electrical contacts held together by a dielectric frame. The contacts are electrically coupled to a substrate within the connector. A gasket may be disposed between the dielectric frame and the substrate and configured to block the flow of an overmold material between the dielectric frame and the substrate such that voids are formed between the contacts. The dielectric frame and the overmold may be made from materials containing silica aerogel. The voids and the aerogel materials result in reduced parasitic capacitance between the contacts enabling higher data transfer speeds.

  • Publication number: 20170133785
Abstract: Contact structures for devices, where contacts in the contact structures may provide a sufficient normal force to provide a good electrical connection with corresponding contacts while consuming a minimal amount of surface area, depth, and volume in a device, and where the contact structures may prevent or limit the ingress of fluid or debris into the device. On example may provide a contact structure having a frame. The frame may be arranged to be placed in an opening in a device enclosure for an electronic device or the frame may be part of the electronic device. The frame may include a number of passages, each passage for a contact of the contact structure. Each contact may be held to the frame by a pliable membrane. Each contact may connect to a board in the electronic device via a compliant conductive path.

  • Patent number: 9647398
Abstract: A dual orientation connector having a connector tab with first and second major opposing sides and a plurality of electrical contacts carried by the connector tab. The plurality of contacts includes a first set of external contacts formed at the first major side and a second set of external contacts formed at the second major side. Each individual contact in the first plurality of contacts is electrically connected within the tab or body to a corresponding contact in the second plurality of contacts. In some embodiments contacts in the first and second pluralities of contacts that are directly opposite each other are coupled together. In some other embodiments, contacts in the first and second pluralities of contacts that are in a cater cornered relationship with each other are coupled together.

  • Patent number: 9614378
Abstract: An inductive charging interface with magnetic retention can be used for charging electronic devices and accessories. For example, a magnetic core of an inductive charging configuration may be divided into two magnetic elements, one element can be housed within a receptacle or receiving connector of housing of an electric device and the other element can be housed within a plug or transmission connector. The poles of the two elements of the magnetic core may create a magnetic field to retain the plug connector in an aligned, mated position with the receptacle connector of the electronic device in addition to directing magnetic flux to flow in a circular path around and between the two elements of the magnetic core, thereby inducing a current for charging the internal battery of a device.

  • Publication number: 20170093199
Abstract: A wireless transmitter device is configurable and operable to transfer energy to multiple receiver devices at the same time. The transmitter device is configured to enable one or more sections of a charging surface to transfer energy by selectively choosing one or more conductive traces in the transmitter device based on the position of the receiver device on the charging surface. The size and shape of each section of the charging surface that is used to transfer energy to a receiver device can change dynamically based on each receiver device. Additionally, the process of transferring energy to each receiver device may be adjusted during energy transfer based on conditions specific to each receiver device.
