Patent number: 12536886Abstract: This disclosure describes techniques for optimizing motion detection in systems that use passive infrared (PIR) detectors. The techniques comprise generating a first signal and a second signal by two sets of detector elements. The techniques further involve calculating a sum of the first signal and the second signal as well as a difference between the first signal and the second signal. The techniques may comprise determining whether a slope of either the sum or the difference exceeds a threshold slope value. If the slope exceeds the threshold slope value, a determination may be made as to whether an amplitude of the sum or difference exceeds a detection threshold. If the amplitude does exceed the detection threshold, then a motion detection event is detected.
