  • Publication number: 20070175576
Abstract: A fluid-filled bladder with a reinforcing structure and a method of manufacturing the bladder and reinforcing structure are disclosed. In general, the reinforcing structure extends around the bladder, and the reinforcing structure is bonded to an exterior of the bladder. In some embodiments, the reinforcing structure is recessed into the bladder and extends along side surfaces of the bladder and between upper and lower surfaces of bladder. In manufacturing, the reinforcing structure may be located within a mold, and the polymer material forming the bladder may be bonded to the reinforcing structure during the molding process.

  • Publication number: 20070119075
Abstract: A fluid-filled chamber for an article of footwear and a method for manufacturing the chamber are disclosed. The chamber may be incorporated into a sole structure of the footwear and includes a central area and a plurality of lobes extending outward from the central area. The lobes are in fluid communication with the central area and are formed from a first surface, a second surface, and a sidewall. The sidewall joins with the first surface with the second surface to seal the fluid within the chamber, but no internal connections are generally utilized to join interior portions of the first surface with interior portions of the second surface. The fluid within the chamber may be air at a pressure that is approximately equal to an ambient pressure.

  • Publication number: 20070063368
Abstract: A fluid-filled bladder is disclosed that may be incorporated into footwear or other products. The bladder includes a sealed outer barrier, a foam tensile member, and a fluid. The tensile member is located within the barrier and bonded to opposite sides of the barrier. The fluid is also located within the barrier, and the fluid is pressurized to place an outward force upon the barrier and induce tension in the tensile member.

  • Publication number: 20050167029
Abstract: A method for forming a fluid-filled bladder is disclosed. The method includes placing a core between a first sheet and a second sheet of thermoplastic material. The first sheet, the second sheet, and the core are compressed in a mold such that a first portion of the mold contacts the first sheet to bond the first sheet to the core, and the first portion of the mold contacts and shapes substantially all of a sidewall area of the first sheet to form a sidewall of the bladder from the sidewall area. A second portion of the mold also contacts the second sheet to bond the second sheet to the core. In addition, the first sheet and the second sheet are compressed together around the periphery of the core to form a peripheral bond between the second sheet and the sidewall.

  • Publication number: 20050028403
Abstract: A cushioning component for an article of footwear is disclosed that includes a fluid-filled chamber and a covering element extending over a portion of the chamber. The chamber is devoid of internal connections, and the fluid within the chamber may be at a pressure that is substantially equal to an ambient pressure. The chamber defines a plurality of lobes, and the cushioning element includes a plurality of inserts that extend between the lobes. The inserts are elongate structures that decrease the compressibility of peripheral portions of the cushioning component.
