  • Patent number: 8047765
Abstract: An actuating device includes: at least one first elongated member having a first coefficient of thermal expansion (CTE); and at least one second elongated member having a second CTE different from the first CTE, the second elongated member being nested within the first elongated member, the device being configured to displace a portion of the device a selected distance along a major axis of the device based on a relationship between the first CTE and the second CTE in response to a change in temperature.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: August 29, 2008
Date of Patent: November 1, 2011
    Assignee: General Electric Company
Inventors: Ian David Wilson, Bradley James Miller, Henry Grady Ballard, Jr., Eric Scicchitano
  • Patent number: 7914253
Abstract: A system for regulating a cooling fluid within a turbomachine. The system may include a plurality of bypass chambers, wherein each of the plurality of bypass chambers allows for the cooling fluid to pass from the compressor section to the at least one wheelspace area. The system may also include a plurality of bypass plugs, wherein each of the plurality of bypass plugs is insertable into a bypass chamber opening on each of the plurality of bypass chambers.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: May 1, 2007
Date of Patent: March 29, 2011
    Assignee: General Electric Company
Inventors: Sivaraman Vedhagiri, Ravi Meenaksh, Jesse Trout, William Parker, Eric Scicchitano, Joseph Moroso

  • Publication number: 20100054911
Abstract: A system for adjusting a clearance in a gas turbine including a turbine rotor and a plurality of buckets is disclosed. The system includes: a shroud assembly including at least one shroud segment, the at least one shroud segment being disposed in an interior of a turbine shell; and an elongated member extending from the turbine shell. The at least one shroud segment is attached to an end of the elongated member, the elongated member configured to move in response to a temperature change to move the shroud segment and change a clearance between the shroud segment and at least one of the plurality of buckets.

  • Publication number: 20090053042
Abstract: A gas turbine including a casing and a shroud ring, the gas turbine including an attachment device rigidly attached to the casing and at least one of the shroud ring and a duct attached to the shroud ring, wherein the device allows the shroud ring to expand and contract independent of the casing and provides limited net axial growth of the shroud ring.
