  • Publication number: 20140215945
Abstract: Exterior building siding for aesthetic and protection of the building against wind, rain and solar energy by attaching each horizontal plank from the top of the wall downwardly that includes a starting strip where each plank is interlocked to the plank above it. Each of the horizontal planks includes a top wall portion that fits snuggly into an “L-shaped” groove above it so that the panels can be firmly locked together vertically in a downwardly fashion to prevent any wind uplift against the siding or moisture intrusion. In the preferred embodiment, an adaptor strip is bonded to a conventional siding plank for trap lock engagement. Each adaptor strip has a longitudinal recess to reduce mass and volume and a mid panel support for strength.

  • Patent number: 8526823
Abstract: A method for setting transceiver transmission parameters, in a transceiver having a plurality of components, to achieve the predetermined acceptable end-to-end bit error rate while reducing power consumption. In another aspect the invention relates to an optical transceiver system that uses digital signal processing to process the data stream sent through a fiber optical channel to compensate for transmission, reception and channel impairments to achieve the a predetermined end-to-end bit error rate and to alter its power dissipation to that sufficient to meet said end-to-end bit error rate. In one embodiment the optical transceiver system includes an optical transmitter; an optical receiver comprising an ASIC, FPGA, or other circuitry; and a controller in electrical communication with the optical receiver, wherein the controller controls power to portions of the ASIC so as to reduce power dissipation while meeting the end-to-end bit error rate.

  • Patent number: 8297020
Abstract: A top down trap lock shingle system that includes a plurality of identical shingles, each shingle having a bottom layer and a top layer permanently attached to said top edge of said bottom layer forming an extended area along the top of the shingle that includes strips of adhesive and said bottom layer having an enlarged nailing or stapling zone that extends beyond the bottom edge of the top layer. The shingles are trapped locked together by inserting the top tab portion of the top area in a top down manner onto an above shingle row staggered to protect the seams and fastening the bottom edge of the shingle to the plywood roof thus trap locking each of the shingle rows in place. The laminated shingle system is especially durable and provides protection against high winds preventing wind damage and water intrusion.

  • Publication number: 20120224846
Abstract: Designs, methods, and applications for fault localization and fiber security in optical transponders is described. In one embodiment a two-way time transfer protocol or other suitable method for synchronizing clocks between distant transponders is used. The clock synchronized transponders have digital signal processing to continually detect high precision time-histories of physical layer attributes in the transmission between the two transponders. Physical layer attributes can include: state-of-polarization changes, changes in polarization-mode-dispersion, change in propagation delay, changes or loss-of-light, changes in OSNR, changes in BER between the two nodes. By recording these physical layer changes and time-stamping them information on the magnitude and estimated location of the changes can be inferred by from the time records. In one aspect the method may be used in a distributed optical sensor for monitoring trespassing events that are a risk to fiber security of an optical transmission link.

  • Patent number: 7401159
Abstract: The technique of the present invention provides a solution to the problem of routing or redirecting a given client to a replica or proxy server which has a relatively shortest propagation delay to the client. According to the technique of the present invention, a network device referred to as an intercept server sits in front of a host server, and intercepts packets routed to the host server. When desired, packets which are intercepted by the intercept server are replicated, encapsulated and tunneled to selected client servers in the overlay network. The tunneled packets are received and processed by each of the selected client servers, whereupon each of the selected client servers generates a respective spoofed response to the source device identified in the header of the originally intercepted packet. Further, according to the technique of the present invention, each of the selected client servers transmits its respective spoofed response to the identified source device at substantially the same time.
