  • Publication number: 20240156467
Abstract: A compression device is used to increase intra-luminal pressure within the upper esophageal sphincter of a patient in order relieve an impact of an abnormal or defective upper esophageal sphincter anatomy, physiology, or functionality. In one implementation, the compression device is used in conjunction with an external pressure sensing device to determine the external pressure that is to be applied to the cricoid for a specific patient. The compression device can be a means for the management and/or treatment of abnormal upper esophageal sphincter functionality, or a means for strengthening an esophageal sphincter of a subject, or a means for curing esophageal reflux disease of a subject, or a means for improving vocal function in a subject, or a means for managing lung aspiration, or a means for applying cricoid pressure during anesthesia intubation, or a means for stabilizing body structures such as during medical imaging or radiation treatment.

  • Publication number: 20240097277
Abstract: A method for producing a microporous material comprising the steps of: providing an ultrahigh molecular weight polyethylene (UHMWPE); providing a filler; providing a processing plasticizer; adding the filler to the UHMWPE in a mixture being in the range of from about 1:9 to about 15:1 filler to UHMWPE by weight; adding the processing plasticizer to the mixture; extruding the mixture to form a sheet from the mixture; calendering the sheet; extracting the processing plasticizer from the sheet to produce a matrix comprising UHMWPE and the filler distributed throughout the matrix; stretching the microporous material in at least one direction to a stretch ratio of at least about 1.5 to produce a stretched microporous matrix; and subsequently calendering the stretched microporous matrix to produce a microporous material which exhibits improved physical and dimensional stability properties over the stretched microporous matrix.

  • Publication number: 20220184546
Abstract: A device for scrubbing carbon molecules from the ambient atmosphere includes a housing, a carbon-capture filter, and a holding mechanism to hold the device in operable association with an automobile. A housing may be perforated and constructed to removably hold a filter. A filter can include a hydroxide chemical compound in granular form. A holding mechanism may anchor the device to a grille, under-hood element, or in operable association with a tailpipe of an automobile. Sometimes, the device includes a color-changing indicator to indicate end-of-life of a filter. A decorative emblem may be included to obscure the device from casual observation by a passerby.

  • Patent number: 6065019
Abstract: A method and system for allocating and freeing storage are provided. The method can be built on top of any existing storage management algorithm. The method is described as being built upon the heap storage algorithm most often associated with the C programming environment. The method operates by breaking all storage requests into a fixed number of pools. Each pool is then managed by three tiers of management. The first tier is a so-called quick pool consisting of storage blocks which have already been used and freed and are managed on a LIFO queue. The second tier is made up of cell pool extents that are carved from the heap and then further subdivided into blocks of the appropriate size for each pool. The third tier is made up of the existing heap management algorithms or any other storage management algorithm. The method relies on atomic hardware instructions for removing blocks from the quick pools and cell extents.
